Last week, in his "F&B Tourism" course, Professor Philip Ruskin invited Jane Bertch - founder of La Cuisine Paris.

🍽️ After a career in banking, this American from Chicago arrived in Paris and decided to start her own business. She settled in Le Marais and surrounded herself with French chefs who would teach classes on the classics of French cuisine and pastry for foreign tourists.

🧠 After a presentation of the company, its strategies and assets, the founder asked the students to think about growth opportunities for La Cuisine Paris. A time of gourmet and strategic exchange!

🎤 INDUSTRY LEADER CONFERENCE 🎤

With a new format, this year's Industry Leader Conference (ILC) was inaugurated in style by Manuel Heurteux, the head of the food and beverage (F&B) concentration at ESSEC Hospitality Management IMHI. Aligning the conference to the concentration, the event brings practical learning and relevance to the IMHI students.

For this edition of the event, we had the pleasure of hosting Guillaume Radius, the Hospitality & Leisure Director at Club Med. Responsible for F&B planning and operations, Guillaume gave an insight to the students about the journey of F&B businesses through covid and the recovery path they currently are on. Highlighting key challenges that face the industry today, Manuel and Guillaume also spoke about the keys to success for a business in a time like today.

"A key to success for any business today is a change in mindset. Instead of focusing on challenges, Club Med revised its approach to look at them as key opportunities". Necessity is the mother of invention and in line with this, Guillaume spoke to students about how Club Med has turned to innovation to not only overcome today's challenges but also improve customer experience.

We would like to thank Manuel and Guillaume for an insightful session and an amazing start to the ILC format. The LAB at IMHI, reopens its doors to students for the first time this student year. Associations are a big part of student life at ESSEC Hospitality Management IMHI where students engage in campus life. Responsible for being the pasta box association for IMHI, the LAB is headed this year by Vincent Dubois and Léa Vaksman Szpecktor who will be offering a new and refreshed menu. Hoping to succeed like the numerous alumni who have operated the LAB, Vincent and Lea are delighted to welcome you!

Proceeds generated from the associations are used to fund student events throughout the year thereby making them an important part of student life.

👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 Welcome to the Family 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦

As both promotions of the ESSEC Hospitality Management IMHI program kicked off their study year, the Student Association (BDE) IMHIrates organised a family dinner at the famous Bouillon République.

Keeping true to the IMHI tradition, each year, a "couple" from the second year adopts their "kid" from the first year to complete their "family". The "parents" are therefore not only the mentor and guide for the "kids" but also a friend and confidant helping the first year students find their own feet at their new school!

Helping students with their integration into the program, answering their questions and making life fun and comfortable is the goal of this exercise at the ESSEC Hospitality Management IMHI program. Thank you to IMHIrates for such a lovely event! We look forward to being at your next event!

Currently completing an internship or working in their company as part of their apprenticeship, our students will be returning to school in a few weeks. It is therefore time for feedback!

A few words from Edgar LE GOVIC & Thomas Caresche, in the finance department of the well known Parisian Palace of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group :

"After several months spent at the , our first feedback is very positive.

From everything that we learned to the brilliant people we have met, this first experience in finance marked a defining chapter in our careers.

The variety of our missions allowed us to understand the overall organization of the financial department. We had a real opportunity to use and develop our knowledge in a professional framework.

The skills, ideas and professionalism we are now armed with are thanks, in part, to Caroline CAUDRON, Income Auditor, Patricia LAU, Cost Controller, Gulsah Cam and Alain Appere, Accountants.

Our students have the opportunity to work abroad for a few months. For example, Utkarsh Phooli is in London, Pauline Schneider is in Madrid, Cédric MOLEY is in Boston and Célia Merveille, Theo Deschamps de Paillette & Adélaïde Gastaud are in New York City.

Today, it's Marie Le Bescond's turn, currently working as a in Amsterdam, to tell us about her experience:

"I am extremely grateful to be able to do my internship abroad and especially in the city of Amsterdam. I discovered the rich Dutch culture but also the cosmopolitan nature of the city represented by the diversity of employees working at the hotel.

Zoku's concept has allowed me to truly meet all types of people and make real connections, whether they are residents, members or locals and I cannot wait for the one in Paris to open !

The position as a Duty Manager has deepened my understanding of hotel operations but also given me a real opportunity to lead the operation team. You have to be able to face any situation and make the right decisions to maintain the best guest service while challenging your team.

Being in the center of operations has taught me to better communicate, prioritize and delegate - improved skills that I will be committed to using throughout my career. "

A new school year, a new executive committee.

The Junior IMHI Hospitality Consulting (ESSEC Business School), a Junior company exclusive to students starts a new year with a new executive committee. Cédric MOLEY (H23), the new president is “excited for this year and to meet the incoming H24 promotion” and stated they had a lot of great projects, some of which are already ongoing.

The mission of is to work with companies and hotels to challenge themselves, use the knowledge and skills they learned during their IMHI experience and undergrad, and promote the program in the industry.

👔 A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN INTERNSHIP STUDENT 👔

Our students following the internship track have been in position for nearly 4 months. They have chosen to join multinationals or small companies, operational or financial departments, in France or abroad.

Today, Antoine Sitz tells us about his experience as an Assistant General Manager in the mythical Parisian hotel, The Peninsula Paris.

"I have had the chance to find this internship within the executive office at The Peninsula Paris and I am not disappointed at all. Being part of this department allows me to work closely with the GM on a daily basis.

Not one day feels the same. Working with such important people is very beneficial and brings me a lot of new perspectives that, as a student, you don't necessarily see or heard of.

My tasks are very different from one day to another... One day I might be working closely with the head of housekeeping and the day after I will be participating to the creation of our CAPEX 2023. This is what I love about this job... the versatility of it.

After 4 months, I can say that I have worked with every department of the hotel and had the chance to lead projects that will still be in use long after I am gone. "

Once upon a time at IMHI...

🧑‍🎓 This is the story of 10 second-year students at ESSEC MSc in Hospitality Management (IMHI), passionate about the hospitality industry and looking for new .

🇳🇵 They decided to fly to Nepal for 10 days to help develop and enrich the FAB School's curriculum.

This is a training center that aims to give young deprived Nepalese the , skills, competencies and necessary to successfully undertake a career in hospitality.

Our students are willing to share their and diverse knowledge of the industry to these young Nepalese volunteers and thus complete their studies with a meaningful project.

, catering, ... Here is an overview of the topics and skills that our IMHIs will share with students and teachers during their journey.

"It was a real honour for us to represent our family at this event! We lost in the quarter-finals after a great performance in the group phase and above all a very good atmosphere within the team. 🎉

It was enlightening to have their vision on the program and especially the focus on the increasing experiential trend in the sector.

Drafted with a view to prepare organisations better face the recent challenges in the hospitality industry, the report presents ideas, figures, case studies and key takeaways around the CSR theme.

ESSEC MSc in Hospitality Management (IMHI) is delighted to partner with La Fabrique du Tourisme which has resulted in great learning opportunities for the students.

Mathilde graduated with a Higher National Diploma (DUT) "Gestion des entreprises et des Administrations" (GEA) in 2019. She then joined the Bachelor’s program of Institut Paul Bocuse and graduated with a degree in Hospitality Management and 2021.

She is now enrolled in the IMHI ESSEC program as a student-apprentice at Maison DUCASSE Paris. As Assistant Sales Manager, here is her typical day:

"The department I am working in is managing the event part of the Parisian Ducasse restaurants. Within a scope of about ten restaurants, I am in charge of receiving customers’ requests, from individual or business groups, for the organization of their bespoke events in our establishments.

As every guests as different needs from another, I guide them through our fine-dining collection and according to the commercial strategy, based on a special group pricing, I address them proposals that best meets their expectations. As a result of which is it all about encompassing with the guests all the details regrading their upcoming event (menus, installation, extras items, administrative contracts, payment monitoring…).

This position enables me to strengthen my knowledges of the hospitality and tourism sector by interacting directly with its key stakeholders (not only our restaurants teams but also events agencies, tour operators, business executives, individuals… ) as well as it allows me to learn from the luxury requirements and the importance of strong customer relationship building."

In 2018, Devor came up with the concept, confirming their positing as pioneer in the catering industry. Like Devor, all of Panorama Group's establishments and brands embody and carry strong and innovative concepts.

The students enrolled in Xavier Barbaux course, Mangement of Catering Companies, had the pleasure of receiving Jean-Francois MONFORT, Panorama Group's General Manager, on the ESSEC campus.

During an exchange on the difficulties encountered in the area of human resources, the students were able to present their ideas for the management of human resources in a constantly evolving restaurant market.

This week the students attended the Industry Leader Conference hosted by Michel GOTSCHMANN with moderators including Léa Vernet and Xavier Buisson.

Digitalization continues to shape the hospitality industry. Its effect on hospitality is vast and digital technologies have become an integral part of the industry. Listening to the speakers was indeed a pleasure for the students as they found out what the digital age of hospitality holds.

Digital tech partners have become important as hospitality brands strive to grow. Listening from D-EDGE Hospitality Solutions and Expedia Group provided students with an external view on hospitality technology and prepared them better to lead future fruitful partnerships with digital partners.

IMHI's program can be taken as an internship or an apprenticeship. This week, we highlight the apprenticeship track by taking you into the life of our students at work.

Julie Schnieringer graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Vatel. When she joined ESSEC Hospitality Management IMHI, she chose the apprenticeship track for a more practical and relevant working experience, she says. Currently working at Airelles as a Marketing & Operations coordinator, she divides her weeks between the head office in Paris and Airelles Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle Hotel. Here is her typical day in a few words :

"My role is to support the Marketing & Operations teams on cross-functional projects, and in fact no two days are alike. I organize my day according to the urgency of the tasks.

In the morning, I start by answering emails since I constantly exchange with the different departments and properties. Then, I plan my day according to it. I carry out the priority tasks such as updating our app, planning shoots, creating content for the social networks, creating marketing materials...

In the afternoon, I focus on the field when I'm in Versailles, directly making content on the ground of the hotel (photos, videos). Then, there is a touch-up and editing process. At the head office, I use this time to work on long-term projects such as the implementation of new standards, competitive analysis...

What is enjoyable is the autonomy and the uniqueness of each day, but this requires a rigorous organization. "

“The success of any school can be measured by the contribution the alumni make to our national life” – John F. Kennedy

ESSEC Hospitality Management IMHI is proud of the global footprint of its alumni and the contribution they make to the industry. AAIMHI ESSEC Hospitality Alumni hosts monthly get togethers which not only provides a great networking opportunity for our current students but also an opportunity to share and collaborate for our alumni.

One of the recent editions of this get together was held in New York at the beautiful The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York organized by Francois-Olivier Luiggi (H92). Attended by one of our current students, Elise Jmn (H23), this edition was indeed a demonstration of the global presence of ESSEC IMHI and its graduates.

We thank AAIMHI - IMHI Alumni Association for the exceptional events they host.
