Let it snow! 😍

Chamonix has been a magnet for alpinists and skiers from all over the world since the 19th century. Its valley is famous for its imposing glaciers and towering peaks, the most significant one, of course, is Mont Blanc.

Chamonix sits on the French side of the border of France, Switzerland and Italy. This makes it an excellent destination if you want to experience these European countries during your trip.

For those of you with non-skiers in your group, or if you fancy experiencing other things Chamonix has to offer, there is plenty of choice.

The thing that everyone should do during a visit to Chamonix is to go up to the Aiguille du Midi. Jump on the cable car that takes you up to over 3800m. From the top, you seem to be just a stone’s throw from Mont Blanc’s peak, the highest mountain in the Alps.

You don’t have to be on skis or a snowboard to enjoy Mer de Glace glacier. Non-skiers can also ride the Montenvers mountain railway to see the epic landscape, ice cave and eat at the le Refuge du Montenvers.

Chamonix itself has plenty to offer including dozens of shops, bars and restaurants, an ice rink, sport-centre, 1.3km dry toboggan run, an Alpine museum and a library. There is also a casino if you want to test your luck during the evenings!

After taking in all that mountain air return to Chalet Couttet to collapse in complete luxury.

Autumn has arrived in Chamonix 😍🍁🍂

Autumn is a wonderful time to be in Chamonix – lively but not too busy, the weather is generally pleasant , and the autumn colours and warm light really make it look like somewhere out of a fairytale!

Much of the valley is larch rather than pine and they turn a spectacular golden colour. Birch, rowan and maple trees have lovely colours and the myrtille bushes that cover much of the high mountain turn a deep, brilliant red. The colours start at the higher altitudes around mid-September, arriving in the valley during October.

The festive season is around the corner in Chamonix!

Soon, the lights will twinkle, a huge Christmas tree will tower over the square and the smell of mulled wine will waft through the air.

Chamonix, with its colourful chocolate-box houses shrouded in a blanket of snow and surrounded by the high peaks of the Mont-Blanc range, looks like the picture-postcard rendition of a winter wonderland. There is no better place to get in the Christmas spirit than here!

Many countries celebrate on the 24 December rather than on the 25 December, and with Chamonix being the international town that it is we get to do both. The French have their main festive feast on Christmas Eve and it usually features duck or guinea fowl, seafood and shellfish, figs and chestnuts, cheeses and a chocolate Yule Log. Most restaurants in town will be serving special treats for Christmas Eve.

5 things to do in Chamonix this summer 👇 Although the town is known as one of the best ski resorts in Europe, there are plenty of amazing experiences to have in Chamonix in the summer. 1. Do the Lac Blanc hike The Chamonix valley is home to some spectacular hiking trails and the one leading to Lac Blanc (aka the White Lake) might just be the best of them. This alpine lake is regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in France. There are several ways to reach the lake but the most common of them is to take a cable car up to La Flègère station and then follow a relatively steep uphill footpath until you get to Lac Blanc. 2. Take the Montenvers train to see Mer de Glace Visit Mer de Glace, the largest glacier in France. Here you can visit an ice cave carved into the glacier, have lunch in one of the restaurants and explore the Glaciorium exhibition centre 3. Take in the views from Aiguille du Midi! Aiguille du Midi is a mountain peak in the Mont Blanc massif and undoubtedly one of the most famous attractions in Chamonix. It’s the highest peak accessible by cable car and the closest you can get to Mont Blanc without actually climbing it. 4. Go paragliding above Chamonix. As soon as you arrive in the town, you’ll see that the sky is full of colorful paragliders gracefully soaring through the air. 5.Have a beach day at Lac de Passy While there’s no sea or ocean near Chamonix, there is Lac de Passy (Passy Lake) just a 30-minute drive away. Surrounded by mountains, this gorgeous lake features crystal clear water and a view of Mont Blanc. At one end of the lake, there’s an organized beach area with toilets, a volleyball court, a restaurant and a floating water park for kids.
