The problem with long underpants is that once it gets too warm, they are really difficult remove in the field. Taking off your skis, skiboots and shell pants while you're standing in the snow takes time and is generally just a hassle. Luckily Aclima, the Norwegian wool experts, have a solution: Their Woolshell Summit Pant is super warm and features side zips to make adding or removing them really easy. Just drop your shell pants to the ankles, unzip the woolshell and pull the shell pant back up. Easy.
I've even used them for summer mountaineering where it almost always gets too warm for long underpants during the day. But the early morning starts can be quite chilly at high altitude in the mountains. The Aclima Woolshell Summit Pants are a really good solution for this situation.
