Unfortunately 2022 hasn’t been a good year for us here at Kingfisher Lake. With France suffering its worst heatwave for 500 years (according to the press). Being located in one of the affected areas we endured the brunt of the extreme heat and in late July the lake temperature reached 28.7° and thus had significant oxygen crash. The result was devastating on the specimen carp, the tench and predator fish. Forty six carp in total, eight of which were 40+, twelve 30+ the rest being made up of teens and twenties. I managed to save some, but in 24 hours we were effectively wiped out.
It took a number of weeks for all this to be absorbed and then decide what to do. We have waited while anglers who were booked to fish here were found alternate venues, that has now been completed after a considerable amount of work by the whole Angling Lines team.
Winter will see the lake emptied so that a stock count can take place. October 6th I’m meeting to discuss 25 new small/medium sized carp for 2022, I’m also in the process of getting a surface aerator to augment the existing aeration system, if all goes well, additional larger stock will be added in winter 2023. Therefor we will not be offering carp fishing holidays until April 2024. We will only be offering the gîte for non-fishing holidays during that interim period.
I will be posting a few progress updates over the next 18 months so those that are interested can follow the progress.
