I moved to France in 2005 and after a little spell, working for various immobiliers, (estate agents), I started 'French Living Solutions' to help those expats moving to France who had trouble negotiating all the red tape & bureaucracy that generally abounds with a life in France.

Over the years and with the variety of services that the business offered, it became clear that there was a dire need for holiday home preparation. Over the years I've done many but with the lockdown and the prevention of travel it's become even more necessary, with homes being left for years at a time and owners returning to find the wildlife have moved in.

Last week French Living Solutions and Team Clean took on a holiday home that hadn't seen a visit in over a year.

We spent three and a half days at that house. It unfortunately had itself been chosen as the holiday destination of a host of Asian Hornets so everything, and I mean everything had to be cleaned down, cleaned up and taken away.

There were ceilings and walls to wash, furniture to wash & polish, floors to clean, bedding to wash, bathrooms to disinfect and cobwebs, lots of cobwebs & spiders to hoover up.

Broken, but not disheartened we covered the furniture, bagged up the bedding and eventually closed the door on a sparkling property, giving the keys back to the owners' representative yesterday.

Thankfully it's August and that means in France at least, that most things come to a stop. Obviously it's not something that my wife believes in as I've been 'asked' to get the kitchen and bathroom finished before I take on any more for anyone else.

Which is why I said, it's lucky it's August. France comes to an unofficial stop, holidays are taken, it gets unbearably hot and the family comes to visit! In short, everyone seems to be taken up with something else so, until the end of August anyway, I'll be like the French, taken up with something else. Come September, it'll be back to business as usual so to those waiting for a Devi I apologise now.

To those potential clients out there that are looking for a reliable builder, I bring my own lunch, love dogs and according to the Big7Travel website, I have the 3rd sexiest accent in 2019😉

I'm moving house at the moment which is why it's been a little quiet here at FLS, so many things to do, including of course searching for and absolutely filling every box and every bag that hasn't yet been packed with precious possessions :-)

Still, business goes on as business must and I'm still working away, my office will be the last thing to move so I'll be online until the last and then hopefully, Orange having done their job, back on line just an hour or two later!

Sorting out even the simplest thing on your own can sometimes be so frustrating, especially when you're not as conversant with a foreign language as you might hope to be and there are phone calls or appointments to be made and understood.

Getting to that time of year when we all need to start thinking about the possibility of frozen pipes, don't wish to be thought of as stating the obvious, but I'm going to anyway....

If you're leaving your property for any length of time, ie longer than a day, better to be safe than sorry so turn your mains water off coming into the house, drain your system down via the lowest tap in the house and leave that tap open to allow for the expansion of any residual water in the pipes.
