Last May, during a rather strange time where it was snowing (yes, really!!) in the Vosges, we had the pleasure of guiding a Chinese family around the battlefield of Le Linge 1915.

This was a particularly challenging assignement as the family only spoke Chinese (with a little bit of German and English) but, with proper preparation on our part and patience, we managed to supply the experience that they were looking for and discovered so much about a conflict which is totally unknown in their country.

谢谢 !

Last weekend, we were very pleased to accompany the Tobins from London, England around the Hartmannswillerkopf battlefield.

It was a particularly rainy day. However, this did not dampen our enthusiasm to visit the battlefield, quite the opposite actually. With only a short time of rain, the trenches were already quite full of water, which allowed our visitors to better comprehend and appreciate the difficulties that the soldiers of the Great War faced on a daily basis.

As our guide pointed out: "We've been out here for about an hour and we are already cold, wet and our shoes and clothes soaked. We'll soon be heading back to a warm room, good food and drink and dry clothes. For those who were out here between 1914-1918, there was no such escape."

Last weekend, we had the pleasure and honour of guiding Peter Mathiasen and his father around the battlefield of Hartmannswillerkopf, following in the footsteps of their ancestor, who fought with the IR.84 of the German army between 18-22 January 1915 on this infamous Vosgian battlefield.

The IR.84 was recruited from the people of what the area the Germans called "Northern Schlesweig". This area was Danish territory that Prussia had annexed following the Danish-Prussian War of 1864. Therefore, whilst Denmark wasn't a participant in WWI, Danes did indeed fight within the German army during that war before Northern Schlesweig was reunited with Denmark in the aftermarth of the Great War.

Today is going to be a bit different: We are in the upper side of the Alsatian Vosges on the battlefield of Le Donon!

At 1,009m, it is the highest of the WWI battlefields along the Alsatian front and was the site of heavy fighting between German and French troops between 14 August and 22 August 1914, notably between 21 and 22 August.

A wonderful time spent with the pupils of Bishop Challoner Catholic College from Birmingham, England.

Here, we see some of our visitors setting foot at the monument dedicated to the 152e French Infantry Regiment. This monument, erected on the point of the furthest French advance, is one of the Hartmannwillerkopf's "must see" sites.

Our guide explained the glorious service record of this regiment during the First World War as well as the origins of the "Red Devils" regimental motto, which is still worn with pride by the regiment to this day.
