This year we have changed a number of our twin beds to ones that can be joined together to make one large super king bed.
These beds on the first floor of the chateau are flexible in this way.
So, if you’re holidaying without the kids and you need doubles, the chateau has 5!

Roses grow well in our region and we’ve planted them everywhere! Love love love!
We were gifted this single rose plant a number of years ago by Guy’s mum, after a visit with her friends. We planted it in this corner and it had flourished. It’s a wonderful way to remember her.
When we relandscaped our grounds during lockdown, I worked with the wonderful Coco,
We had a plan to create a line of vision that took us from the central courtyard, into the pool and out to the grounds at the other end.
We started with these elegant of cypress trees that flank the gated entrance to the terrace and then changed the pool gates further along, from a solid black gate to a wrought iron decorative gate…a super lucky FB marketplace find!

It was all documented on Season 2!
Since we are running more retreats now here at the chateau, we welcome more single guests, who not only need their own room but also a big bed!
So we’ve just swapped out one of the single beds in our chateau top floor bedroom for a double.
When we’re not running retreats, this room becomes a fabulous family suite.
We’re always evolving as our guests’ needs change.
Love this angle from the pool, taken from the shallow steps looking towards the central courtyard, with the table tennis terrace on the left and the “chicken coop” terrace to the right…named in memory of the chickens we used to keep when the children were little!
Many a guest can be found cooling off on the steps, lost in a haze of the calm and tranquility of the beautiful pool garden.
Our grounds are peppered with antique features that we’ve picked up since we arrived over 20 years ago.
This old wine press was manoeuvred into this position using our digger! It was lowered gently, piece by piece swaying in air, until it finally landed into stillness! Phew!
It sits at the entrance surrounded by treasured terracotta and zinc pots and planters and is a welcoming sight as guests drive in on arrival.
Thank goodness I’m happy with where we initially chose for it to sit, as moving it is probably out of the question!
😅Although, Guy may not agree with this…I have been known to move the “unmovable”!
What’s the most precarious move you’ve tackled?!
The ground floor bedroom in our Coach House has had a makeover! We now have the flexibility to offer this as a twin or superking room, depending on our guests’ requirements.
It also has an ensuite walk-in shower room, suitable for disabled access.
We often host big family gathering and as a ground floor room, we find this room popular with their elderly guests.
It has a lovely feel to it and has access onto the central courtyard, which is often the hub of the holiday!
Do you holiday as a large family group? Elderly grandparents all the way down to the tiniest newborns…we have you covered!

The walled swimming pool garden really is an oasis of calm and beauty.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks since we finished our last health retreat.
The retreat is a great deadline for us and we are running around madly before everyone arrives to get everything ready and looking glorious.
Whilst we’re running the retreat, nothing much can happen in the properties and grounds and we’re now back on it!
You can’t leave things for too long when you’re running a chateau and can get out of hand very quickly! And then it’s suddenly a BIG job to retrieve it!
But, we love it!

Without exaggeration..this could be a life-changing experience.
It was a pleasure to welcome our big family group who were celebrating Christmas together this year. They (all 22 of them!) gathered from various countries to enjoy this special time together.

Taking inspiration from the many stunning chateaux in our region, we’ve recently re-landscaped our grounds and gardens.
This photo was taken last summer and now, everything has grown and finally come into bloom. This year it’s starting to have that well established look rather than that newly planted, sparse feel!
Can’t wait to see it develop over the years!
We took the opportunity to replant as much as we could from these original beds..most successfully went into the pool garden.

We had a lot of fun filming and it was definitely a learning experience for both Guy and me!
We filmed during lockdown but luckily we had ordered our wood and got one of the last batches before it became very difficult to source new wood. This meant we could plough on with our pergola project and get them up in time for the spring, when the roses around them come into bloom.
We are absolutely thrilled with them! Not only do they add focus to a section of the pool which, bizarrely, never got used! But they also provide alternative seating areas for more privacy around the pool.
They’re even better in real life!

Open plan living in the Farm Cottage makes it such an easy property for a family to be together on holiday. That’s a good thing, right?!?!?!
Of course it is! Family time is precious and spending time away from the day to day activities and pressures of every day life is incredibly restorative. The Loire valley is the perfect spot for that…we see it over and over!

Breakfast is ready in the Farm Cottage!
Making time for a leisurely breakfast is one of the joys of being on holiday. We love watching our guests relax and take the time to arrange a beautiful breakfast to start their day. Breakfast always tastes better on holiday, right!!!
When did you last enjoy a long uninterrupted breakfast with family or friends?!
The Farm cottage is such a cute property, that sleeps 4, with plenty of comfortable seating for a family to cosy up together at the end of a day’s sightseeing, shopping or sunbathing…all under the watchful eye of these gorgeous parrots!!
Our local Bioparc (5mins from us) has an incredible aviary that’s not to be missed. There are sections for wild birds as well as the more common species.
I often advise guests to go, even they “don’t like zoos”!!! They always thank me!
What’s your favourite way to spend the day on holiday in France?
We have one twin room in the chateau and I’ve played around with the arrangements so many times over the years! And it all started with the bed frames that I picked up in an antique store in angers in the early days..in the days when I really should’ve have been spending money on luxury furnishings! But I’m so glad I did!
The whole frames proved not solid enough for holiday guests so I took them apart and have used a set in this room and will re-purpose the other ends to another property.
Re-purposing is a way of life here at Château de la Vigne…and I love it!
Life in the Loire is busy right now! It’s that time of year when we are focusing on getting all the big jobs done and out of the way, as before we know it, we’ll need to spend our days tending to the grounds and gardens as they come out of hibernation.
I love that but it is relentless! No sooner have we moved from one section to another, it’s time to start back at the beginning! However, the reaction and appreciation we see from our guests makes it all worth it and I can’t wait for the season to get going in earnest.
So thankful that many of the rooms in the chateau have had a makeover recently, so we we’re almost there internally!
This is our family suite on the middle floor of the Chateau. It has a sofa bed that we make up for small children and there is a bathroom ensuite for full privacy and convenient. Plus, in the height of the summer, you’ll be overlooking fields of hay bales as far as they eye can see.
Where’s your favourite spot to relax? That spot where you steal yourself away, with a cup of tea and a magazine or a good book?
This spot in our château library is certainly inviting me today!
Keeping it simple with the table decorations here but so pleased with the effect. We picked some fragrant bay leaves from one of the large trees on the way into the pool garden and arranged them on a gold platter with some pine cones discarded from our pine trees, 3 small candles and some delicate fairy lights.

We welcomed some lovely American (Europe based) guests recently who declared that we had an “American size” pool!
We took that as a compliment and indeed love that our pool itself, as well as the garden it is set in, is large and spacious so all our guests can enjoy a quiet spot in the sun.
We’d love to welcome you here to Château de la Vigne; this region is fascinating and we have a gorgeous pool for you to relax in after a day out visiting château or vineyards!
How glorious is our château looking right now?! The roses in front “took a break” over the last couple of weeks and after a well needed prune, are now blooming beautifully overlooking the terrace in front of the château.
We’ve done so much work to our grounds, particularly around the château itself and I was thrilled to receive this photo taken by the lovely Mandy from .🙏🙏🙏 It’s an angle I would never have considered…isn’t it wonderful to see how others view your space. We become so familiar that we miss so much beauty from different angles.
