Provence Living

It's a hot but stunningly beautiful day here in Cotignac! Here are my photos from this morning. The last one is of the old magnanery with arched windows (silk worm house) as seen from the chemin d'Ecole which has been turned into apartments but back in the day (before the 1950s when synthetics became popular) this is where they store and bred the silk worms. The cocoons were then taken over to the Grainage to be sorted and spun. Bonne journée!

What a fantastic weekend to be in Cotignac

Bonjour everyone!! TGIF and it's going to be a pretty big weekend. Tomorrow is of course France's big day (but since the 14th falls on a Saturday this year no one gets an extra week day off and most shops will remain open) and there will be a 10K run/race and a pasta party (you can get tickets for this at the Tourist office) from 7:30pm and life music until the wee hours. Sunday is of course the World Cup Football final at 4:50pm and we support the French team (of course!). The last time this occured was in 1998 and the village went wild. So this time the municipality will enforce the security so people can enjoy the game and festivities (hopefully) that follow. There are quite a few restaurants and bars showing the game on their big screens so if you're around do join in the fever. Allez les bleus!!!

Provence Living

Enjoy the celebrations!

Happy Fête Nationale to everyone in France! No French person will call this day "Bastille day" like anglophones would but it is the most important national holiday here and there will be celebrations throughout the country (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastille_Day). Cotignac will celebrate with a 10 km run called "Foulée de Cotignac" at 6pm. There is a Pasta Party with dancing to live music down at the bottom of the Cours Gambetta but there are no fireworks scheduled for today (there may be in other villages however). The fireworks in Cotignac are scheduled for the evening of Saturday, 25th August, during the village festival here (and that's always a fun event organised by the Comité de fêtes). Have a great day :)

Cotignac's tennis courts are currently being redone. The little clubhouse will also get a facelift. Our little village is really starting to look even more fabulous.:)

A quick reminder that when it’s hot and windy the fire risk rises massively..

It's hot in Cotignac today. And windy. Which makes it a forest-fire hazzard so please take care if out and about in our natural wilderness. Here are photos I took yesterday from the chemin des ecoles, overlooking our village: one zooming in on the church tower and roofs, the other from a far. This evening's World Cup football starting at 4pm can be enjoyed at most bars here. Allez la France!! TGIF and bon weekend, wherever you are :)
