Yes, great climbing & photography...!.

This week as part of the , we’re presenting Seth Langbauer Photography's photos and stories.

Born in Sitka, Alaska, Langbauer moved to Egypt while still in high school. At age 18, he and his family moved to India. “We had to leave Egypt because of the revolution in 2011 so we ended up going to New Delhi,” he says. Years later, in 2012, he relocated to his current home in Bozeman, Montana to attend Montana State University School of Film & Photography. The following year, he dropped out of college to pursue photography full time.

For the next six days, we’ll be sharing Seth’s photos and stories on our social media pages. “I get out every day whether it’s riding, climbing, skiing or shooting photos--I need to be active. My camera is with me all the time,” Langbauer says.

This is his first post.

Danger is a constant in Yosemite National Park, where the towering cliffs, thundering waterfalls and rugged wilderness combine with an unusual knack among humans to stumble into horrifying predicaments. Nobody knows that better than John Dill, who has been involved in almost every significant rescue…

Have a peaceful night...!

“The statement of the West Temple is still in your face each moment you linger in town. Its stark, natural lines dare you to dream of creating your own paths in the desert, while route names like Gettin' Western remind you of the absurdity. I like to think of it as a symbol of another Zion ethic: take the climbing seriously, not yourself.”

For the next few days, we’ll be posting scenes from Ethan Newman’s Zion National Park Mountain Profile, from Alpinist 53. Read his story here: http://bit.ly/23534KG.

This is post 2 (of 5).

Looks really challenging...!

In 1904 the artist Frederick Samuel Dellenbaugh wrote of the landscape that became Zion National Park: "Never before has such a naked mountain of rock entered into our minds!... There is almost nothing to compare to it. Niagara has the beauty of energy; the Grand Canyon, of immensity; the Yellowston…

“This photo shows Ueli Steck speed soloing the North Face of the Grandes Jorasses. Work takes me to exciting locations and puts me in contact with the world’s best. I really enjoy my work, and it’s a constant battle to push myself as an alpinist so that I can get to locations that the world’s best, like Ueli, perform in. This shot was taken on my very first photo shoot with Ueli, and it set the course that my professional work as a photographer has followed. This photo captures exactly why Ueli is so fast—have you ever seen anyone run up an ice field in that stance before? It’s really hard to be able to relate to the style, ability, and situations that top athletes put themselves in, and after this shoot I realized that that was what I wanted to do: to capture top climbers pushing the limits and sharing that with people around the world.”

This week we’re presenting long-time Alpinist contributor Jon Griffith’s stories and photos as part of the project. See Griffith’s photo essay from his and Will Sim’s 2015 ascent of Mt. Deborah (12,339’), here (http://bit.ly/1Iwv5mt).

This is his second post.

“My first and only time to Patagonia was back in 2010. It was still ‘quiet’ then, and I remember Will Sim and myself worrying because one other team in town were also there to climb the West Face of Cerro Torre—how times have changed! It’s hard to pick a single photo from Patagonia, as the landscape and climbing is so photogenic; but, maybe the most powerful one is of topping out on Cerro Piergiorgio as a storm slams in at our backs. We’d taken a bit of a gamble in a very small weather window on a route we literally knew nothing about, and it had just paid off. As we topped out of the East Face we were enveloped in a powerful storm, which literally picked us up off our feet and pinned us to the ground at times. But it had been pretty special to have the whole range to ourselves.”

This is his first post.
