The queen of jams here in France, and it’s a great time to make the most of the apricots at the late summer markets. They’ll last a year on a cool dark place. Recipes are left for you in the house, my favourite Apricot jam adds in vanilla pods, lemon and orange juice… and of course lots of sugar!

A favourite trip for our guests is the stunning Lascaux caves. A great idea for a boiling hot day. The Lascaux caves, the ‘Sistine Chapel of prehistory’ and the Vallée de l’Homme provide a fascinating glimpse of this remote age through the eyes of prehistoric artists. Famous for their Paleolithic cave paintings, remarkable for their detail, rich colour and lifelike quality they are estimated to be over 17,300 years old. The valley itself contains 147 prehistoric sites and 25 decorated caves. Lascaux itself is the pride of the region and is a setting
of complex caves near the village of Montignac.

Summer outdoor markets can be found across the Dordogne region on a daily basis. Peaches and tomatoes are deliciously in season. Help yourself to the French cookery books left for you in the house for inspiration!

A simple summer favourite of mine using the best of ingredients:

Peach and Tomato Salad
Cubed peaches
Cherry tomatoes
Goats cheese
Balsamic vinaigrette
Basil

Place the peaches, tomatoes and goats cheese in a large bowl. Drizzle with vinaigrette, add torn basil and toss. Simple and honest ❤️

High temperatures in the Dordogne this week….time to cool off! Minutes away from the house the beautiful lake ‘Etang du Coucou’ is set in a 7 hectare site. There are picnic tables along the banks of the lake and a snack restaurant close to the beach and it's popular summer aquaparc. A gentle shady stroll around the lake provides stunning views of the village and chateau.
