Have you ever thought of Hurkle Durkling with a Frolleague?
Predicting trends in hospitality can be a perilous business; and extrapolating those trends to a couple of gites in southwest France fraught with danger! Hilton’s latest survey for 2025 (conducted among 13,000 travellers) has just been published and, as well as adding several new words to my vocabulary, has given me food for thought.
The headline seems to be that travellers are looking for something “between relaxation and adventure" combining lazy days with intense experiences. However, whilst 70% say they enjoy activity during their trips another 20% practice “Hurkle-Durkling” or staying in bed all day. The advice to accommodation providers is therefore to invest in their bedding and offer late check-out.
Meanwhile 25% of travellers like the idea "Slow Travel", by immersing themselves in the local culture, which then morphs into what Hilton are calling “soft travel” – very gentle stays intended to preserve or restore one’s mental health. This trend is definitely something we’ve noticed and is often mentioned in our reviews.
Apparently 2025 will also be the year of "pet friendly” since the survey reports a "significant increase in travel with pets", again something we have benefited from. People travelling with friends and colleagues – yes “Frolleagues” – is also on the rise, whilst solo travellers are now being described as “MeMooners”!
If you want to hurkle-durkle, enjoy soft travel with a frolleague or pet, or even go on a memoon we have the softest bedding waiting for you at Bassinaud.
