Dolphin Gîtes is a friendly, family-run complex of 7 independent holiday gîtes, situated in 1.5 acres of private grounds, with a heated swimming pool, only 5 mins' drive from the beach. The complex comprises of 7 character gîtes of different sizes, all with direct access to the gardens and heated swimming pool. Situated in the delightful village of La Chaize-Giraud in the north of Vendée, only 5 m

inutes' drive from the superb beaches of Brétignolles-sur-Mer and 12 minutes from the impressive Grande Plage in St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. We are a few hours from the ports of St Malo and Le Havre, and only half a day’s drive from the port of Calais. Local beaches are only a few minutes away by car or 20 minutes by bicycle. But if you prefer, you can spend the day relaxing beside the swimming pool. Our largest gite (holiday house with 3 bedrooms) can accommodate up to 8 people and is ideal for a large family or two families sharing. Our smallest gite has just one bedroom and is ideal for a couple or a small family.

This Saturday, La Chaize-Giraud held their 10th annual "Rues en Scène" street festival - an evening of food, live music, art and performances, right on our doorstep!

June has been really sunny with temperatures topping 30 degrees. The grass is burnt and the swimming pool has maintained a good temperature all month. Happy guests and already some nice reviews. For those of you who are birders, we have a remarkable family of Hoopoes in the garden at the moment.

Prices and availability for next summer (2015) are now accessible on the website and we are now taking bookings. Our new build, gîte 8, is looking really very nice. It is a detached cottage next to the swimming pool, with a private rear garden. We are just waiting for shutters to be fitted in the next week or so before posting photos.

The past year has been one of our busiest as far as jobs go. The children’s play area has been relocated to the orchard area in the back garden which has been cleared and levelled. A long fence has been erected to give security to the play area. A wall, child proof gate and fence have been built in front of the swimming pool to increase child security and privacy. The roof of the pump-house has been re-tiled and rendered. The interior of gites 1, 2 and 3 have all been upgraded.

Oh yes, we would like to introduce Minty, our new adorable white cat.

We are really looking forward to a great summer, giving a very warm welcome to both new guests and returners. Sun, beach, pool and the smell of chipolata sausages on the bbq!

Today and tomorrow, 4th/ 5th September, some of the hottest days of the summer (30+). Pool at 29 degrees! 43 weeks booked already for next summer. Fantastic!

Summer 2013 is our 12th summer and our busiest, with a fun and relaxed atmosphere on-site. July was the hottest on record - well, joint hottest with July 1976. Recorded temperatures in Vendée reaching high 30s. Dolphin Gîtes is expanding. We hope to commence building of gite 8 this autumn - an independent bungalow with 2 bedrooms located in the existing plot near the swimming pool. Thank you to all our returning guests who we love to see here in the summer and many of whom we now consider friends.
