Last two weeks of August has now been booked, but September remains a lovely time to come to the Dordogne. The evenings are much cooler, but the days (and swimming pool!) are still warm.

Hope everyone is keeping safe and enjoying their new found freedom. We are hoping for, and looking forward to, a busy summer. We had to make do with celebrating a family Christmas virtually this year, we hope you all managed to find some fun and joy in such strange times this year.

Dear friends, we were unfortunately unable to open this summer due to our need to isolate and keep ourselves safe, we hope all our friends and clients were able to the do the same. The upside of not having any clients was that we were able to spend some quality time with family, which John & I adored. We are, however, really looking forward to opening back up next year and have a couple of exciting things in store for returning guests.

Storm Dennis has us all longing for warmer, calmer weather. We think long, lazy lunches at Maison Jolie are the perfect antidote to sideways rain!

September is a great month to visit the Dordogne, we’ve had 34C in the shade this week, but the evenings are mild and comfortable.

Many of our guests enjoy a canoe trip on the Vézère river, which runs very close to the house. Canoëric, which is an easy 15mins walk, is a local company offering a range of distances and even a shady spot for a beer or a glass of rosé afterwards! Here’s a photo of our family canoeing on their most recent trip to visit us.

Last night was the last marché gourmande of the summer season in Le Bugue. We’re going to miss the steak & chips, but are looking forward to trying the butcher that supplies them in St. Cyprien.

We had a fun evening at the Le Bugue Marché Gourmande this evening. Our grandchildren are visiting so Grandad spent much of the evening buying ice cream and tat.
