of France! This warm microclimate in a rural setting of fields and forests, lakes and rivers, pretty villages and chateaux makes the central Poitou Charentes an ideal holiday destination. Situated on the edge of a forest, the little hamlet of La Grande Tranchee provides a haven for its inhabitants and visitors alike. This typical French farming community offers a friendly welcome to all who choose to stay. The countryside around the hamlet is a mix of forest, arable and grazing. The farmer keeps a flock of sheep and two beautiful riding horses that can be seen lazily grazing across the lane from the garden. Our child friendly cottages are set in pretty walled gardens. Each cottage has a large BBQ which provides 'would be chefs' a chance to show off their culinary skills whilst the ladies enjoy a well earned rest, perhaps sipping a glass of wine or taking a dip in the heated pool. Our 'little' guests enjoy raiding the strawberry patch whilst their parents particularly enjoy our succulent black cherries and apples. Fresh, organic home-grown herbs are freely available, in season, for your alfresco dining. With no less than four market towns (Melle, Chef Boutonne, Lezay & Sauze Vaussais) in close proximity you will be spoilt for choice when arranging shopping forays and trips to market.
