La Petite Maison Blanche

La Petite Maison Blanche http://ahiddensouthoffrancegetaway.com Its two-star Michelin restaurant, La Table de Emilie, is one of the finest in France.

Marseillan nestles in a corner of the Etang de Thau, 15 minutes from the Mediterranean and a short drive to Sete and Agde. Reputed to be the oldest village in France, built to receive classic wines from Burgundy and finest Clarets from the nearby Canal du Midi. Our house in Rue Louis Blanc is a typical French village town house, with a courtyard to barbecue fish from the market held on Tuesdays an

d Saturdays, and table and chairs for al-fresco dining. The kitchen, dining room and lounge all have modern facilities and a wood burning stove to take the chill out of an evening. There are volcanic steps up to two bedrooms, perfect for four but sleep five people comfortably, both with ensuite bathrooms. It is only five minutes walk from the town centre with greengrocers, delicatessens, a number of bakeries, and just a ten minute drive to the glorious 10km long sandy beach, dotted with beach bars. Flights to Bezier, only 20 mins from the house, take approximately an hour and a half from Luton. Nimes and Montpellier airports are around 45 mins away. The old town is a maze of narrow twisting streets that cheat the sun, lined with impressive doorways, dark passages, the arched doors of vignerons’ caves, and overhanging gargoyles and carvings. The main port, in contrast, is busy and wide open to the sun, a great place to meet friends for a glass of wine or beer and some oysters.
