A Piece of Provence is celebrating its 2 year anniversary 🎈🎊

Thank you to everyone who has been on one of our tours, likes and interacts with our content, follows us and has encouraged us along the way 🙏

What a difference 2 years makes. Thinking back to 17th May 2022 we never could have imagined that we would be here now after only 2 years 🥳

Of course not everything goes smoothly when starting a business and social media tends to show the positive side. But it is important to remember how far we’ve come and everything that we’ve overcome. The things that we thought would never happen that have and all of the wonderful times we’ve had on the way 🧡

Please like, comment and share with friends and loved-ones to grow the A Piece of Provence family 👭👫👬

Did you know there is a Roman bridge in Marseille? 🏛️

Known locally as the “Vieux Pont” or the “Pont Romain” of Saint-Marcel, in the 11th district of Marseille, is it relatively unknown 🌉

It was built in 49 BC by Julius Caesar’s army during his siege of Marseille, as part of his civil war against Pompey 🧨

It was partially destroyed by the Saracens in the 7th century, leaving only the columns. It was replaced by a wooden bridge, before the double arch bridge we see today was constructed by the viscounts of Marseille in the Medieval period 🏰

Pedestrians could use the bridge to cross the l’Huveaune river (which still flows under it today) until the beginning of the 20th century 🚶‍♂️

Today it is at risk of collapsing and is in need of urgent repair ‼️

It’s always a pleasure when guests have a vaste cultural and historical understanding and a desire to learn. It encourages me to dig deeper into the archives and to expand my knowledge 🎓
