We have both frogs and toads in our garden. Frogs are smaller and have smoother skin; toads are more dumpy with shorter legs. However, both enjoy a dip in our pool when no one's looking!

Voici Chanel, the orphanage she grew up in is Aubazine abbey, near Brive just over an hours drive of us. You can visit it today, and see what inspired Chanel from her jewelry designs to choice of colour and simplicity of cut.

« On dirait moi. »
Et j’ai adoré ça.

On m’a traitée de rebelle, d’insolente, voire de vulgaire.
Mais jamais d’obéissante.

J’ai vu les guerres tout emporter.
J’ai vu mes boutiques fermer pendant l’Occupation.
J’ai entendu :
« Chanel, c’est fini. Son temps est révolu. »

— Coco Chanel

These two were spotted having a conversation whilst sitting on the gite bathroom window ledge. What do you think they are discussing, the price of flies, maybe? 🤣

One of the truly unique things to do in our region is to spend time on the Velorail. Just over 20 mins from the gite, it's a strange double bike contraption with seating in between. You need a person on each bike to make it work, and you follow old, redundant railway tracks that take you over viaducts, through stations, and mainly under the canopy of trees. If you wonder if you have the pep to do this, you can buy an electric pack that will do a lot of the work for you! ( Recommended -unless fit!) It's terrific fun, and something very different.

Woohoo the temp in Bordeaux was only 25 degrees today, a pleasure to do a spot of sale shopping in. Then finished the day at the Bassin de Lumieres, for an amazing light show. This was a submarine base for the Germans during WW2.

What can you do when it's really hot here? Some 20 minutes' drive away lies the Grotte de Villars, a cool prehistoric underground cave packed with incredible sites, including original wall art. I say 'original' because the ones you see in the world-famous Lascaux caves are copies, made to preserve the deteriorating originals. Also at Grotte de Villars, above ground, you will see high-quality impressions of how our ancestors lived, including where they slept, what they ate, and more.

Today is World Social Media Day, and when you think about it, social media isn’t just part of our lives—it is our life archive. It’s where we mourn losses, celebrate wins, debate injustice, and showcase creativity. World Social Media Day is more than a hashtag—it’s a moment to reflect on what we share, who we follow, and why it all matters.

Just bought this French match striker. They were found on the counter in bars. They were used to advertise brands, and you strike your match on the green lines area. They are normally filled with loose matches, unlike this cute matchbox advertising the national loterie. These are old so the loterie in France must have existed pre The National Lottery! Anyone know more?

Limoges is always a delight to visit, stuffed with tall beamed medieval houses on every corner in the centre. The smell of artisan bread wafts up your nose. The restaurants were poised at 12 noon, to be bustling with people by 12.30pm. It was slightly overcast to start with, and a cool 28 degrees yesterday, perfect for a spot of sale shopping! Just before taking the train back, took a pic of the railway station, considered by many as the finest in France.

Decided to visit the relatively new Bijou premises in Limoges. This local company was started in St Yreix le Perche by Antoine Dubois way back in 1845. It specialises in a sweet delicasy called a Madeleine, (a small sponge cake). Made in a number of flavours, it works a treat with a coffee. The shop also has a floor and a film that tells you about the history. Great to see it still flourishing today.
