January is for skiers - you heard it here first!! January is the month WE go skiing, yes, if you have kids at school then you're tied to the peak weeks, but if you can escape even for a few days or a long weekend in January it will be worth it! The pistes are quieter, the ski conditions are usually spot on and there are accomodation deals to be had! We have some gorgeous chalets still available in January - 1. 2. Zems Lodge: stunning views in central Morzine (oh and the best hot-tub EVER!)

From horse-riding to padel - and so many more in between...we can't keep track of all the family activities available this summer in the our corner of the Alps! As we said before, we've tried them all (!) so if you're staying with us this summer then let our concierge know what you enjoy and we can plan an incredible trip for you...some of our favourites include taking a little pony ride around the Dereches under the trees, hiking the Grand Balcon under the soaring Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix, a quick game of padel (a combo of tennis and squash - easier to pick up and great for families!), and catching the Mer de Glace train up to the glacier...

Summer tips, Part 1: Lake Montriond

If you're staying with us this summer in the Portes du Soleil then you absolutely must head over to Lake Montriond - you could spend a leisurely day here or just a sunset stroll. This is a gorgeous lake year-round, surrounded by the cliffs of Avoriaz and stunning at sunset or sunrise.
Here's all you need to know:

- There's a large car park at the west end of the lake and a smaller one at the east end.
- If you'd like a gentle, flat stroll then a loop round the lake takes about 1 hour.
- For a longer walk, head from the far end of the lake through the woods up to the waterfalls (Cascade d'Ardent), which is around another hour return and gentle uphill.
- There are great restaurants at both ends of the lake, plus a cafe in the carpark.
- Hotel du lac has a gorgeous terrace and a fun vibe, there's an equally beautiful terrace at Le Verdoyant and a more traditional menu at Le Bout du Lac.
- The lake is wonderful for swimming, with a shallow 'paddling pool' for children and of course you can hire paddleboards and kayaks too.
- There's mini golf and a children's playground with zip wire.
- With plenty of grassy areas and benches dotted around the lake, plus barbecue zones it's the perfect spot for a summer picnic too!
- Finally, there are incredible yoga sessions held on the deck overlooking the lake on a Tuesday and Sunday morning - very worth the early start, and maybe breakfast and a swim afterwards! Ursula Yoga + Snow

Zipping into summer..... it's here! No doubt your school holidays have either started or are just about to start, so we have ALL the tips you need for an incredible family Alpine holiday! With little and big ones of all ages, our team have tried and tested every activity available in the Portes du Soleil...try us! (Okay, maybe no-one has done the huge zip wire in Chatel...but we will make someone do it if we need to!) The mountains are a truly spectacular place for a family holiday - no one will get bored, everyone will get worn out and whatever happens, tears can always be mopped up with cheese / ice cream (and wine for grown ups!).... This is the ropes course (Indiana Parc) in the Dereches in Morzine - there is a tiny course for 3 years + where adults can help them round and they sit in a basket for the zip wire - then 4 further courses, right up to the black course, which is pretty serious! Here little Fin, age 4 is on the blue course, all of them finish with a zip!
