This imposing cathedral is one of Old Nice’s most iconic monuments. It stands on the essential Place Rossetti, popular for its restaurant terraces and the famous ice-cream shop, Fenocchio.
Built in the second half of the 17th century, it was consecrated as a cathedral in 1699. Today, it has become an essential monument in Nice. Its location on one of the busiest squares in the Old Town allows thousands of passers-by to admire its majestic beauty every day. Behind its impressive Baroque architecture nestle ten chapels as well as three organs. Everything was built in a style inspired by Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. If you look closely, you will realise that it is built in the shape of a Latin cross oriented to the East.
In addition to being the Old Town’s largest sanctuary, it is also the headquarters of the diocese of Nice. Sainte-Réparate Cathedral is a place of prayer for the people of Nice as well as a tourist highlight not to be missed in the heart of the city of Nice. It was registered as a Historic Monument in 1906. It was also raised to the rank of Minor Basilica in 1949, the same as the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

🌿🦩 To the west of Nice, the Parc Phoenix is a magnificent seven-hectare park where families love to meet up to explore many rare species of animals and plants which amaze children and their parents.

A real haven of peace at the heart of the Côte d’Azur, a visit to Parc Phoenix has, for more than 30 years, been one of the most popular family outings for the people of Nice and travellers. Spread over seven hectares, more than 2500 plant species across a score of gardens, which cohabit with 2,000 animals representing 70 different species. Among them, it is not uncommon to see marmosets, crocodiles, exotic birds or farm animals.
In the centre of the park, a huge greenhouse called the Diamant Vert [Green Diamond] can be found. A total of six tropical climates are recreated in this huge 7000 square metre space, 25 metres high, one of the largest in Europe. This whole marvellous little world is built around a central lake which invites you to log off and escape. Throughout the year, many events, educational activities and various nature-related exhibitions are on offer here. Nice’s Parc Phoenix has been awarded the Famille Plus and Jardin Remarquable labels.

The Palais Lascaris is one of the most beautiful museums in Nice. Located at the heart of the Old Town, it holds many rare works as well as an impressive collection of ancient musical instruments.
Built in 1648, the Palais Lascaris is located at the heart of Vieux Nice, on one of the main arteries: Rue Droite. Its façade is very low-key and blends into the other buildings in the neighbourhood. In the Baroque style, like many Nice monuments built at this time, it was the residence of the Lascaris Vintimille family until the Revolution. In 1942, it was acquired and subsequently transformed into a museum dedicated to seventeenth and eighteenth century art and music.
Inside, the decoration is magnificent, whether in the various period salons or its monumental staircase, decorated with frescoes and tapestries of a rare beauty. Visitors to this jewel are surprised to discover inside impressive paintings, tapestries, sculptures and ancient furniture. But what is most amazing is certainly its incredible collection of over 500 ancient musical instruments, the majority of which were bequeathed by the notable Antoine Gautier from Nice. This is the second largest in France after the Paris Musée de la Musique, as well as one of the most outstanding in Europe. The Palais Lascaris is registered as a Musée de France. It was also registered as a Historic Monument in 1946.

Having left Italy at the end of the 16th century, the Baroque movement found a new home in the Nice region. The architectural, secular and religious heritage of the Niçois region is a testimony to this.

Baroque in the true sense of the word came to an end at the end of the 18th century, but in Nice, its spirit remains very much alive. I will take you with me to visit three of the many masterpieces of which Nice can be proud. A palace, a cathedral and a square.

The Place Masséna is a historic square in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, France. It was named for André Masséna. Its layout was designed by Joseph Vernier in 1843-1844. With the demolition of the Masséna Casino in 1979, the Place Masséna became more spacious and less dense and is now bordered by red ochre buildings of Italian architecture. Since its construction, the Place Masséna has always been the spot for great public events. It is used for concerts, and particularly during the summer festivals, the Corso carnavalesque (carnival parade) in February, the military procession of 14 July (Bastille Day) or other traditional celebrations and banquets. The Place Masséna is a 15 minutes walking from Ange Vert, through the streets of the hearth of nice, or on the Promenade des Anglais enjoying the view.
