This little girl stunned herself on our kitchen window this week. It's a female black cap identified by my bird watching friends, Liz and Char. They're shy birds and she was clearly terrified by her exposure so I put a box with one side open over her, and after a couple of hours she recovered and shot off; gives me a sense of enormous wellbeing (Parklife!)

We're mourning the death of Jaques Chirac over here, who was president during our first seven years in France. He is well liked and famous for his humour.
One story is that during an official visit to London he was sitting in a an open-top carriage alongside Queen Elizabeth, when the horse in front of them suddenly broke wind.
The Queen, embarrassed, felt obliged to apologise to the French President - who replied: "It doesn't matter, I thought it was the horse."
There's no record of the Queen's reaction......

Our albizia is flowering early this year due to the hot spell.
The flowers are more numerous than usual - like powder-puffs on top of the leaves.

A lonely (as far as I know) male cuckoo has arrived exactly on schedule despite a poor spring so far....there's a saying about summer and swallows, and this year, most definitely , one cuckoo does not a spring make!

TOUR DE FRANCE 2018 Full route details for stage 4 July 10th not yet released but looks like we will be 20 mins from the first third of the stage and 10 mins from the last so can watch the stage at two points. 50 mins from start of stage 5 July 11th and 1hr20 from stage 6 climb Mur de Bretagne 12th July. 7 nights min stay.

It's Candlemas in France today (Feb 2nd) and traditionally everyone eats pancakes in the evening. Shrove Tuesday, when Brits eat pancakes is Mardi Gras here in France, which means fat or greasy Tuesday when people fatten themselves up for Lent....
