I am very fortunate that from a young age I developed a natural passion towards making objects out of wood. My Father is a builder and consequently, as a child I would play in his workshop using his tools and any abandoned materials I could find. This natural desire to make beautiful objects led me to the University of Buckinghamshire where I began a course in furniture design and construction. It
was whilst here that I developed a fixation with furniture, in particular, a passion for chairs. Consequently, I furthered my studies and completed the Buckinghamshire’s Fine Furniture course where I learnt cabinet making. After university I moved to London and have been part of a variety of projects. For 2 years I worked for Aldworth James and Bond, and another 2 for Matthew Bray Decorative Arts where I have created armoires and bespoke furniture for private clients whilst also restoring important pieces to their former glory for Christies customers. I was fortunate to be involved in the making of some pieces Sam Mende’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ whilst working for Alex Goacher and have created one-off pieces and shop window displays for clients such as Hermès and Banford & Sons. Additionally, I have worked for various London galleries and made display cabinets for Edmond De Waal. Not only do I believe that this experience has given me a wide range of knowledge regarding the creation and finish of a piece, but it has allowed me to further my own designs. By making something new, and restoring something old, creating a one-off piece for one space and one person, or by repairing someone else’s creation, I have been able to bring both old and new influences into my own designs and create a distinctive, yet individual style. Be it Gesso and gold-leaf, to 3D design, I’m constantly inspired to create objects that besides myself, others will like and that I will one day see within the world.
