When Gustave Eiffel first proposed his tower for the 1889 World’s Fair, many Parisians were outraged. A petition signed by some of the city’s most respected artists and intellectuals labeled it a ‘monstrous’ creation that would ruin the beauty of Paris. Despite this fierce opposition, Eiffel remained steadfast, and the tower was constructed, rising against all odds. Today, what was once considered an eyesore is now one of the most beloved landmarks in the world, symbolizing the very spirit of Paris.
