Montmartre with a local

Montmartre with a local Do you want to meet a real Parisian, find a new friend, visit Paris away from the touristy crowd, discover things that you would have never seen alone? Hi!
(7)

I'd be happy to be your private guide! I'm Murielle, mother of two (5 including the cats) and a Parisian for more than 20 years. During the week, I work as a data scientist in an American company. But since 2015, I'm also a touristic guide for walking, running or rollerblading tours (thank you Withlocals and Airbnb!). Paris is my playground, but my specialties are the Montmartre and Batignolles ar

eas that I used to call home. The more I did tours, the more I developed an interest and expertise in architecture and street art. You can find examples of the tours I usually do below, but I have other tours that are not published online or I'd be happy to customize a tour for you. Montmartre Street art and Architecture :

I love autumn/fall in Montmartre, when the ivy turns red.
After Montmartre wine festival, we also have those colorful stairs, thanks to "les Poulbots" of Montmartre.
I had some guests coming lately and those are blessed: it's the perfect time to visit Paris, beautiful weather, other tourists not back yet, etc.

Big fan of today's wonderful sunset sky!
I could also enjoy it from home, but I wish I was in my favorite Montmartre museum, with this stunning view upon the vineyard.
Can't wait to go there tomorrow for a morning run with a guest!

Those who joined my Batignolles tour would not recognize Parc Martin Luther King now.
I would say the park and the buildings around are almost completed and it's huge!

Today in France, all restaurants can open again and curfew is now from 11pm to 6am. Fingers crossed so that there would be no 4th Covid-19 wave and that tourists can come back to Paris this summer.
I took the opportunity to rebrand my Montmartre Walking Tour: it's now "Street-art & Architecture in Montmartre", which are my biggest points of interest there.

I checked this morning that Montmartre terrasses were ready for their re-opening on May 19th ;-)
On "week-end de l'Ascension", it was really peaceful there, many Parisians were away and tourists are not back yet.

Easter week-end in Montmartre.
French people are about to experience their 3rd lockdown, so a lot of parisians fled to the countryside. Hence Montmartre was really quiet this morning !

It's been a while since I hadn't been in Montmartre... and since I hadn't posted here!
I don't need to explain why ;-)
It was rather quiet there, we are supposed to be allowed to spend only 3 hours in a row outside and a Sunday morning, most of the people there were runners.
I met though an English-speaking guy, who was really surprised to see that you could drink the water coming out of the Wallace fountains. I was surprised to see a foreigner around, we haven't seen many tourists lately!

Take care, enjoy as much as you can this weird end of year and hopefully see you soon in 2021!

Hello from my second morning run in Montmartre since the end of the lockdown!

Still Covid19 athmosphere, with very few tourists and strollers today (even the local ones), but downhill the Abbesses area was packed with people on terrasses, food shops or markets.

Summer is approaching and the area is very green now. Because of lockdown, the parisian gardeners couldn't take care of all the vegetation, so Montmartre hasn't been so wild!

On the street art side, plenty of new things too!

After 2 months of lockdown, I finally came back to Montmartre for a run with a friend on a sunny Sunday morning.
My friend was really patient, because I couldn't stop taking pictures.
I was so happy to see Montmartre again.
I hope that those who have been to Montmartre with me (or without me) will enjoy these pictures.

Besides the walking tours with my beloved tourists, I've been doing rollerblading tours all around Paris every week for 8 years.
Yesterday was the first skating tour since the end of the lockdown.
It was great to see friends again, even if we had to maintain a limit of 10 people and keep a social distance.
But what was even greater was to see again Paris.
Paris, like in a science fiction movie, completely empty.
No more tourists, no more people going out for restaurants and cafés.
It was sad and interesting at the same time!

5th week of lockdown for France.
I miss Montmartre and my last weekly run there.
I also miss my outdoor runs in general, since now I'm only exercizing at home. I don't feel it's such a good idea to run in Paris now, even it's still autorized: too many people around in a big city, even if we are supposed to stay at home as much as possible.
I hope you are well and happy!

Second week at home for France.
I wanted to share this beautiful picture of one of the busiest streets of Montmartre... before Coronavirus!
All the cafés, restaurants, souvenir shops, galleries, churches, museums are closed.
The last bakery of the area, which was next to Le Consulat restaurant, closed a few years ago and is now a souvenir shop.
So there's probably only one shop open on the top of Montmartre: the pharmacy!
Bon courage!

Hi friends!
This might be one the last live pictures of Paris I will post during the following weeks.
It's important now to stay at home, as much as possible, so that we can slow down the spread of COVID-19.
Sorry for those, for which it might be a real economic issue and those who might be impacted by the virus itself.
Try to take the most of this quarantine at home!

My last guests were really into street art, which is also one of my favorite topic.
Next to the old church Saint Pierre de Montmartre, we found this funny new piece. I love the monkeys, that we can find at many different places in Montmartre. Usually they are really discreet. But this one has a complete different style!

Montmartre's cobblestones, probably not as you expected them to be ;-)
Place du Calvaire and Rue Poulbot under construction work right now, but that's interesting!
I love the purple graffiti that match Chez Plumeau's banner.

I couldn't start better 2020: my first Montmartre tour of the year with a very nice family from Chicago, brand new street art from Gregos and Monsieur Chat... and line 13 unexpectedly working for my way back home, after 4 weeks break!

Winter is coming in Montmartre!
No more terrasses on Place du Tertre yesterday afternoon, a lot of space was left for the street painters... under their umbrellas ;-)
But we had a great time there with my guests from Oklahoma, the streets were so peaceful!

Early morning run in Montmartre with a friend today.
Pace was easy, since I couldn't stop taking pictures.
To celebrate the annual festival, this year 1300 steps of Montmartre were painted with colours by school children of the 18th district and an artistic collective.
No need to say that I'm a big fan of what they did!

Do you remember the staircase I showed you two days ago?
The elementary students of Montmartre have finished their paintings and it is awesome!
Ready for the harvest festival, which theme is this year: "the 18th district celebrates the colors"!
And ready to celebrate yesterday the German national day with my nice guest, coming directly from Stuttgart!

A fascinating way to feel the rhythm of seasons in Paris is to pay attention to the Montmartre vineyard.
Home stretch before the grape harvest... and La fête des vendanges from Oct 9th to Oct 13th.
