I would loved to have been in Paris when Brendan Behan lived here. He worked as a house painter while perfecting his verse in Irish.

He followed in the footsteps of James Joyce through the streets of the left bank.

He met Camus and James Baldwin in Les Deux Magots. He enjoyed discussing Existentialism with the philosophers.

Beth, Kristin and Stephanie (Chicago) and Andy (Bristol) joined me on my Writers and Legends of the Left Bank tour today.

Beth (far left) was interested in the French philosophers. Don’t be fooled by her walking stick. She could outrun anybody!

Andy was a Henry Miller fan. I was delighted to share stories of the love triangle between him, Anaïs Nin and June.

I spent a lovely afternoon researching for my new walking tour of Paris.

I will talk about the Viking invasions, show traces of Paris under Roman rule and I will show you the Latin quarter during middle ages.

I love how this seedy, run down hotel in Paris gave birth to the Beat Generation.

I’m not sure if drugs were the only driving force Allen Ginsberg’s creative genius. I think Paris must have inspired him too.

My Writers and Legends of the Left Bank tour runs every Saturday and Sunday at 14.00.

30€ per person or 25€ per person (group rate).

The tour starts at 14.00 in the neighbourhood of St Germain de Prés and finishes in the beautiful Luxembourg gardens at 15.30.

We will time travel back to the middle ages and the French revolution.

If you have seen Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris you will enjoy walking the footsteps of the lost generation in Paris during the 1920s.

I spent a lovely day in Montmartre with two Irish muscians.

We visited the apartment of Vincent Van Gogh and scenes of Renoir’s painting.

We finished on top of the hill beside Sacré Cœur.

Montmartre was extremely busy on this beautiful autumn day.

Temperatures were soaring. It was nice to finish up in a bar opposite the home of Gertrude Stein. It seemed only fitting.

There are many steps in Montmartre and tourists flock here to visit Sacré Couer.

The views at the top of the hill are worth the effort.

Hemingway said that walking the streets of Paris in the morning made him hungry when he was poor.

There was the smell of bread in the bakeries and when he saw people eating outside in the terraces he felt hungrier still.

There are food smells wafting through the air in the evenings as well.
