After having walked a long way for a long time, we are now back home again. The 19th of February we put on our hiking shoes, lifted up our backpacks, and started walking. We walked from winter into spring, changed from rain, mud and sleeping in our tent to sun and sleeping in albergues, and survived blisters, covid and mental challenges. 1240km and 65 days later we arrived to Santiago de Compostela. A journey we will remember.

We came home to a lushious green environment with all the rain that has been falling. But this weekend, our guests, and us too, have enjoyed a sunny Ascension weekend. A beautiful opening of a new season, our fourth season here in the Perigord Noir.

🍁 autumn has arrived 🍂 l'automne est arrivé 🍁

🇬🇧 As the light has changed from the bright summer colors to the warm light of autumn, and the temperatures have dropped well below 30 degrees, we realise that our second summer season here has come to an end. How time flies..

Thank you to all those who have visited us so far!

After the bustling vibes of summer, the calm has returned, the walnuts are ready to be harvested, and you can hear the deer belling in the valley.

We will be open until mid november, so there's plenty of time to come and enjoy autumn in this beautiful and peaceful place.

🇨🇵 Alors que la lumière est passée des couleurs vives de l'été à la lumière chaude de l'automne, et que les températures sont descendues bien en dessous de 30 degrés, nous réalisons que notre deuxième saison d'été ici est terminée. Comme le temps passe vite...

Après l'ambiance estivale, le calme est revenu, les noix sont prêtes à être récoltées et vous pouvez entendre le brame des cerfs dans la vallée.

Nous serons ouverts jusqu'à la mi-novembre, il y a donc tout le temps pour venir profiter de l'automne dans ce lieu magnifique et paisible 🍂

De zomer hangt in de lucht, alles bloeit, en de zwembaden zijn weer geopend. Voor ons een duidelijke marker: we zijn ons tweede jaar hier in gegaan!
En wat zien de dingen er een jaar later alweer anders uit. We zitten op ons eigen terrasje, we zijn helemaal voorbereid op het aankomende seizoen, en kennen veel meer mensen in de omgeving. Meer geworteld, en zin om hier steeds meer thuis te raken.
Ons doel voor dit jaar is om volop te genieten van waar we nu eigenlijk zijn beland, en hier een steeds fijner plekje van te maken, zowel voor de gasten als onszelf.
Proost op een mooi en succesvol eerste jaar, en op naar het tweede!

Summer is in the air, everything is blooming and the swimming pools are open again. For us a clear marker: we have entered our second year here!
And how different things look one year later. We are sitting on our own little terrace, we are fully prepared for the coming season, and we know many more people in the area. More rooted, and looking forward to feeling at home here more and more.
Our goal for this year is to fully enjoy this special place where we have landed, and to turn this place more and more into a pleasant home, both for our guests and ourselves.

L'été est dans l'air, tout fleurit et les piscines sont à nouveau ouvertes. Pour nous un marqueur clair: nous sommes entrés dans notre deuxième année ici!
Et comme les choses sont différentes un an plus t**d. Nous sommes assis sur notre propre petite terrasse, nous sommes entièrement préparés pour la saison à venir, et nous connaissons beaucoup plus de gens dans la région. Plus enracinés, et voulant de plus en plus nous sentir chez nous ici.
Notre objectif pour cette année est de profiter pleinement de l'endroit où nous sommes arrivés et en faire une maison toujours plus agréable, tant pour nos hôtes que pour nous-mêmes.

Joyeuses fêtes ~ Happy holidays ~ Fijne feestdagen!

We have been working hard over the past few weeks to ensure that there is a pleasant atmosphere on our domain, both for our guests staying for Christmas and New Year, as for our neighbours and passers-by.

Now the last working week of this year has started, we are fully booked and we enjoy the festive atmosphere on the domain and in the surroundings.

Nous avons travaillé ces dernières semaines pour faire en sorte qu'il règne une atmosphère agréable sur notre domaine, tant pour nos hôtes à Noël et au Nouvel An que pour nos voisins et les passants.

Een kijkje achter de schermen • zo komen onze walnoten uit eigen tuin bij jou in je gite op tafel

Er staan altijd walnoten op tafel als je bij ons aankomt. En het leuke is; die komen van onze eigen walnoot bomen! :)
Nu, in oktober, vallen de walnoten volop. We zoeken ze iedere dag en laten ze in de zon drogen, zodat we ze het komende seizoen weer bij jullie op tafel kunnen zetten..

There are always walnuts on your table when you arrive here. And the nice thing is; they come from our own walnut trees! :)
Now, in October, the walnuts fall in abundance. We look for them every day and let them dry in the sun, so that we can put them on your table again next season..

~ Our first summer at Le Manoir des Granges has come to an end ~

Since our arrival on April 23rd, time has really flown by. Time for an update!

We have > worked on the terrain > changed the colour of our pools from green to blue > welcomed our first guests > met our neighbours > rolled into high season > cleaned a lot > seen satisfied guests leave > learned French > enjoyed our free time (re)discovering this beautiful area > seen the temperatures rise and fall > and then suddenly... summer was over!

We look back on our first high season here with a feeling of satisfaction and pride :)

Now autumn has arrived, but luckily our work here is far from done! The sun is still shining, guests are still arriving, and we look forward to a new period here in our new home.

De temperaturen schieten deze zomer alle kanten op hier; van een ‘frisse’ 20 graden tot verzengende hitte van wel 35 graden. Gelukkig dat we de komende dagen weer van het aangename zomerweer kunnen gaan genieten. Heerlijk!

High season is in full swing!

Since mid-July we are fully booked, temperatures have been rising (considerably) and falling, but no matter the weather everybody is enjoying their holiday and the surroundings of the Vézère Valley.

Our guests also seem to enjoy bringing items for the pool, and no, not only the kids 😉🤫

Helemaal VERLIEFD op deze prachtige blauwe luiken van het Maison de Maître. 🌿 Het was een van de eerste dingen die ons opviel aan het domein, in combinatie met de typerende goudgele zandsteen die in de omgeving wordt gewonnen.

Twice a week, on Saturdays and on Wednesdays, the heart of the medieval town Sarlat buzzes with colorful stalls overflowing with local produce and tales of history. 🧀🍷🫒

Being located in one of France’s 100 Most Beautiful Villages, it makes Sarlat a picture-postcard destination and definitely a must see when visiting this region of the Dordogne. 👌

Hi there! 👋

As some of you already might know, Paul & Philippa have sold their beautiful property and business and decided to start a new chapter of their lives back in the UK.

Since we’re the proud new owners & hosts of Le Manoir des Granges since the 23rd of April, we thought it was about time to introduce ourselves here 😊 We are - from left to right - Jens, Annet and Senna. Jens and Senna are siblings, and Annet and Jens are partners. We are in our late twenties & early thirties. Not your average hosts we can imagine!

It was our search for a different way of life that brought us here, a place that already felt like a second home. The three of us spent countless holidays in this beautiful area and have kept wonderful memories of them. Now we have the ambition to offer our guests a comfortable home from which they can discover Dordogne at its best.

After years of dreaming, and some more years working very hard to make our dream come true, we are happy to have received our first guests here last weekend, having now officially kicked off our first season at Le Manoir des Granges!

One of our favourite places to visit is the gardens of Marqueyssac. The good news is that they are open (when most other places in France are closed).
Fabulous walks through the park, places for the children to play, little streams to drop leaves or sticks and watch them float away, and amazing views across the Dordogne River.

The wonderful Chateau de Commarque a brilliant place to visit in the Dorodgne and only 20 minutes away from Le Manoir des Granges.

🔴 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗨 𝗗𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗤𝗨𝗘 (𝗗𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗢𝗚𝗡𝗘) | Arriver à Commarque, marcher dans les bois et commencer, peu à peu, à apercevoir ces impressionnantes ruines de pierre... cela procure une émotion toute particulière que vous ne pouvez connaître qu'après avoir découvert ce site historique d'envergure... ❤

Au Moyen Age, plusieurs familles seigneuriales habitent ce village fortifié où chaque maison-tour possède ses propres accès et fossés. Pourtant, à partir du XVIe siècle, cet ensemble unique, témoin des luttes de pouvoir entre les plus importantes familles du Périgord, tombe peu à peu dans l'oubli. Au XXe siècle, la « forteresse oubliée » est presque entièrement recouverte par la végétation lorsqu'Hubert de Commarque commence à s'y intéresser. Depuis 1962, ce grand passionné fait preuve d'une détermination sans faille en réussissant à mettre à jour, restaurer et sauvegarder ce site exceptionnel. Nous remercions sa fille, Aude - qui s'est joint, avec son frère, à l'aventure familiale - pour le temps qu'elle a su nous accorder et la passionnante visite qu'elle a menée ! 😊

Si vous pensiez en avoir déjà fini avec cette présentation de Commarque, vous n'êtes pas au bout de vos surprises ! ;) Le village médiéval s'appuie en réalité sur de somptueux abris troglodytiques extrêmement bien conservés. Surtout, il cache une grotte préhistorique extraordinaire ornée d'oeuvres sculptées datées de la période Magdalénienne (18 000 - 12 000 ans) ! 😮

Le Chateau de Commarque M.H est donc un site aux mille trésors ; il nous offre une véritable reconnexion à la nature, un vrai voyage dans le temps ! Merci à la famille Commarque pour cet extraordinaire travail qui nous permet aujourd'hui de profiter de ce site hors du commun que nous ne pouvons que vous inviter à aller découvrir. 👏 🇨🇵
