Beautiful morning here on the Marne river
Such a gorgeous spot to spend a Friday night. #tourssurmarne
🥖 It's always hard to drive past the bakery in Taissy without stopping and today we picked up an extra treat - a bottle of the Grand Cru brut from our favourite hyperlocal champagne house Champagne François Secondé
These 'ficelle' breads are one of Graeme's favourite. Ficelle literally means string in French and they're like a shorter more slender baguette - perfect for one (hungry!) person. Often they come with yummy bits mixed right into the dough, like Lardons (Graeme's choice d'jour), chorizo or different types of cheese (my go to option).
Do you fancy trying these???
For me 2021 felt like being in a very long tunnel - I could see the light at the end but we never really seemed to get any closer to getting back to 'normal' life aboard.
Flicking back through my phone today I found this video clip of us exiting the Billy-le-Grand tunnel into the sunshine and it seemed like the perfect analogy for 2022!
This was taken on our journey from Sillery to meet our first cruise guests in September at Conde sur Marne.
Wishing you all brilliant blue skies for 2022 and I hope we'll finally get to meet some of you too!
Woohoo it's the shortest day of the year (although right now it's -2c (35F) outside at 10.30am!! ❄️🥶.)......so the countdown is on to next summer.
And for a bit of inspiration here's a few moments from Jay, Becky, Mark and Patricia's cruise in September.
Ducklings at Sillery - May 2021
Good job mamma duck! I wonder if these are the babies who were born in a planter box on our neighbour's boat!
Barge Jacana leaving Sillery
I'm always sad waving goodbye as the friends and neighbours we've spent winter with head off for new adventures.......but the nice thing about living on the canals is I know we'll cross paths again somewhere.
Often the network of canals and rivers across France is called the 'linear village' - which suits me perfectly. It's not so small and cliquey that everyone knows each others business, but you randomly bump into lovely folks you met a few years ago and catch up again over a glass of something. So it's à bientôt rather than au revoir.
Fancy life afloat? - you can 'drop in' on the village on a cruise with us!
No this is not a delayed April fools, it is actually snowing today!!!!
