Hedgehogs babies in the garden of Château de Thuriès...
A new filly was born 10 days ago by our neighbors Michel & Monique...
Uniting the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean was a client dream. It was made during the 17th century under Louis XIV with Canal du Midi which was, with building the Château de Versailles, the most gigantic project of that time. As the canal had to climb the hills, there are many locks on the way. But how to fill regularly the top locks with water? The builder, Pierre Paul Riquet had the genius idea of collecting all the springs from La Montagne Noire (the Black Mountain), close to Revel, into a small canal (we say a 'rigole'), the Rigole de la Montagne, and using it to fill an artificial lake, the Saint-Ferréol lake, closed by a dam, the first one in European history. Close to this one is the Canal du Midi museum, at Le Reservoir, with a beautiful 19th century garden and its water jet. From the lake, another little canal, la Rigole de la Plaine, goes to Canal du Midi passing alongside Château de Thuriès. (Thanks to our guest Lana, from Altanta, for having checked my English...
