Credit where credit is due: As I launch my humble little online presence, I'd like to pay hommage/say thanks to a few people who have unknowingly inspired, influenced, encouraged, or accompanied me in my artistic dabblings which have brought me more satisfaction that I ever would have imagined:
Samivel (pen name of Paul Gayet-Tancrède, 1907-1992): Writer, poet, graphic designer, illustrator, painter, photographer, cinematographer, explorer & adventurer, he was also an early and fervent advocate for the environmental cause, putting his myriad talents towards the preservation of the natural environment and biodiversity. He's best known for his misty and ethereal watercolors (shamelessly and inadequately plagiarized by yours truly) that transcended the heady and rarified air of the alpine environment that he loved.
Jeremy Collins (.collins): Artist and adventurer who's made a living from his love and commitment to wild places and talent for transcribing it through his art while advocating for their protection and encouraging others to get involved, get outside, and make art: difficult not to be in admiration!
He Yifu (1952-2008): Trained in traditional Chinese landscape painting, he traveled extensively in France, and produced a collection of works interpreting the coastal landscapes of Brittany and the mountain landscapes of the Alps. I was immediately captivated by his sensitivity to the light, color, movement, and scale of nature, which are transcribed effortlessly and weightlessly through his painting, giving a timeless and exotic texture to familiar places.
David Leclercq-Carriage (): Dear friend, watercolor artist, companion on countless adventures, and fellow hiking guide (specialized in outdoor “watercolor workshops”), his friendship, advice, and encouragement are priceless to me: Merci, Dave!
