The village has no major tourist attractions which keeps it fairly peaceful. See the links for an impression of what the village is like. Our house is halfway up the hill which was the focus of the medieval village of Rognes. In 1909 an earthquake devastated the upper part of the village. Our house is on the highest of the remaining streets. A footpath more or less on the doorstep leads up to the
hilltop and the ruins of the chateau with a panorama stretching from the Mont St Victoire to Les Alpilles and the Luberon. The Main House sleeps six adults easily, and ten if needs must. The House
The house is difficult to describe on paper. There are two entrances east and west. The east entrance which is reached by going up the steps in the ‘goule’ leads into an inner courtyard. On the left as you go in through the large door is one of the bedrooms with ensuite bathroom which we call the ‘Bergerie’. On the right steps go up to vine-decked breakfast terrace (early morning sun), the kitchen/dinning room and sitting room. Once inside you will find the main bedroom and bathroom straight ahead through the hall leading off the kitchen. Immediately to your left when you enter the kitchen/dining is a hallway leading (via loo, shower, washbasin, washer, dryer), to two more bedrooms (Grenier). A staircase connects the Grenier and the Bergerie. That brings you back to the inner courtyard. We often lunch here in the summer in the shade because the outer courtyard with the swimming pool can be very hot at midday even though there is a large shady deck overlooking the pool. The deck is our favourite spot for dinner in the evenings. Two doors lead off the inner courtyard, one to the office and one to the pool and walled garden. In the outer area you will also find the west entrance which gives onto the car park. Walking through the corridor to the office also brings you into the outer area. There’s a sofa bed in the office and loo and shower, etc in the adjacent pool house. The house and garden are walled making them extremely private. The kitchen has all mod cons, washer and dryer in the side room off the kitchen/dining room, TV and audio in the sitting room. Central heating and wood fire for spring and autumn. The Panoramic
ReservatinA new hideaway to add to the collection. It’s not really new, it’s always been there but it was let on a permanent basis. Now it’s become available again and after a major renovation is a wonderful hideaway for two. It has magnificent panoramic views over the village of Rognes. In fact this spacious and light apartment is the top floor of our home in Rognes but it has a separate entrance on a separate street, even a separate address. That’s the way it is in these hillside Provencal villages. If you’ve been to one of our other hideaways you’ll know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed. A small garden to the west overlooking the village church, a wide veranda to the east with a view of the Mont St Victoire in the distance and a third space that is often in the shade on ot days. A large 7 x 7 sitting room/dining room/kitchen with wood fire, overlooking the garden and pool of the main house* , a small study-cum-spare bedroom with bathroom, spacious walk-in cupboard/dressing room with washing machine, main bedroom with bathroom. Not often available. Can also be rented together with the main house.
* Pool is only available in conjunction with the main house unless the main house happens to be empty.
