Lou Messugo Walk Through
Take a look around Lou Messugo gite to get an idea of the layout. Filmed in bright February sunshine, the interior is light and sunny throughout the year. We are open all year round and already taking bookings for 2025.
Watching the robot clean the pool with the sound of cicadas in the background is incredibly soporific. I might just be taking a little siesta....
I thought I'd share the view out of my kitchen window. This little family seem to be very happy here, I see them several times a day! The babies are adorable but I wish they weren't quite so destructive.
Merry Christmas everyone, joyeuse fêtes! See you in 2024
Vallée de la Gordolasque
Can you believe this mountain scenery is an easy day trip from Lou Messugo? A 90 minute (beautiful) drive brings you to the edge of the Mercantour National Park from where you can walk up to high mountain passes, waterfalls and lakes.
There are walks for most levels of fitness from short 1 hour loops along the valley to 4-6 hour hikes (and longer of course).
For a complete change from the coast I can't recommend this daytrip more highly. Pure oxygen, pure calm, jawdropping views.
The weather we are having right now is perfect for a trip to the mountains. Sunny, dry and warm but not too hot. And it's also the perfect weather for days on the beach, or exploring hill villages, or sightseeing in Nice. In fact it's perfect for whatever takes your fancy!
We have a short notice week free from this Saturday 7th October to Sat 15th. Call/email me if you'd like to grab this rare opportunity. 3 to 7 nights available.

🇫🇷 Happy Fête Nationale 🇫🇷
Many towns put on fireworks displays the evening before on the 13th, and this was last night at Antibes Fort Carré (which is always lit up in bleu, blanc rouge). Watching fireworks reflected over water adds another dimension, making them extra beautiful I think.
There are plenty of places to watch fireworks tonight too (throughout France) and if you can't get to a live show then the incredible show on the Eiffel Tower at 11pm is broadcast live on TV.
How will you be celebrating?
We have new guests at Lou Messugo!! I took this little video of them from our dining room window yesterday evening.
It's been a while since we've had wild boar in the garden, and when we used to get them they made a lot of damage, but this little family spent about an hour snuffling around and didn't make a mess
I loved watching them, the babies played on our "lawn" which due to no mow May is a wildflower meadow at the moment. Such a privilege to have wildlife on our doorstep.
I know not everyone agrees with me as they really can wreck a garden but last night's visit was lovely. What do you think?
The mimosa is still looking fabulous. There are plenty of places nearby to go for walks like this. The smell is gorgeous too. I wish I could share it!

2nd Feb is la Chandeleur, 40 days after Christmas (nothing to do with Lent) it's all about pancakes.
What do you prefer, sweet or savoury?
What topping would you choose?
Answers in the comments please! Also in the comments is a link to one of my most popular blog posts of all time (written a whopping 10 years ago!) with stories about the traditions and superstitions associated with Chandeleur.
Today is Blue Monday, supposedly the most depressing day of the year.
So if you're feeling down, why not book yourself a little treat at Lou Messugo. There's nothing like planning a trip and having something to look forward to, to lift your spirits.
