Lunch with our dear friend Barbara was a good opportunity to try the new 3-course lunch menu at the 1-star Michelin rated L'Oustalet in Gigondas, France. The food was delicious, plating was beautiful, and the service was professional and friendly. The best part was spending time with our friend.

Arrived by TGV mid afternoon from Avignon at Gare de Lyon. Walked to Marriott Hotel about 60 yards from the front of the Gare. This evening, we dined at La Poule au Pot, a classic bistrot in the heart of the 1st arrondissement since 1935. We both started with Gratinée à L'Oignon Soup. For her main course, Shirley ordered crispy Goujonnettes de Sole with Tartar sauce and a pile of French fries. I ordered fricassée of chichen from Bresse with creamy morel mushroom sauce and spinach. We shared a side of Porcini mushrooms persillade. To finish, we shared crêpes Suzette, which was prepared table side. An excellent meal. We couldn't believe how many people were on the streets this afternoon and evening. I have never seen anywhere near that many on the street in San Francisco. If San Francisco could figure out what brings people out, the restaurants, bars, and stores would be thriving.

Today, we were invited by dear friends for lunch at La Grotte Restaurant in Callelongue at the absolute end of the road from Marseille along the Mediterranean Sea in Calanques National Park. La Grotte Restaurant is in an old building that used to be a soap factory. Meal highlights included Gratin of Mussels, Sole Meunière, Paccheri with lobster, and Profiterole with ice cream and chocolate sauce. After our leisurely lunch, we drove to nearby Cassis for a stroll around this beautiful seaside port. Thank you, Alain and Mimi, for this very special day.
