They have just announced the dates for La Bataille de Castillon, the re-enactment of the final battle in the 100 years war. This event has proven very popular with previous clients (and ourselves) and is well worth seeing. Click on the link to the website.

10 years ago last week we moved into our beloved Domaine de Pemontier. On the day we moved in it snowed. Last week it snowed again, the first time since we moved in. Maybe it only snows here once every 10 years!

We would like to wish all our lovely guests, past and future, a very merry Christmas and wonderful holidays in 2023.

These are the words of President Macron when he announced the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. These words demonstrate the depth of feeling that he has towards the royal family and the UK in general, hardly a friend on which 'the jury's out'.

Have you ever spent an afternoon strolling around the Gardens of Marqueyssac? 🌳
If not, this should be at the top of your bucket list 😎

Listed as a National Historical Monument, the romantic Jardins de Marqueyssac include 6 km of shaded pathways lined with 150 000 hand-pruned boxwood hedges, waterfalls and a 19th century stone-tiled castle 🏰

Suspended 130m above the Dordogne, the gardens also boast exceptional panoramic views over the river and surrounding historic villages 🤩

Good to know, they are open everyday, all year round 🌿

Did you know the Dordogne Valley has some of the clearest night skies in France? 🧐

With a very low level of light pollution and clean air, it is the perfect place to observe our galaxy and beyond 🪐

So find a blanket or a lounge chair and head to the garden. On the 5th, 6th and 7th of August, it is the best time to admire the moon, Saturn and Jupiter. And watch out for shooting stars...💫 ⭐️

Despite having a large barn and various other places to roost this little fellow has decided to sleep in our window. However it does give a very rare opportunity to see a bat close up, and we’re very grateful to him for the work he does at night, so he deserves to sleep well.

For those of you who are planning to drive across to France for your holidays this year it is worth checking the air quality charges being made to vehicles in many towns and cities. Reviewing this could save you a costly fine. https://www.france.fr/en/holiday-prep/crit-air-anti-pollution-vehicle-sticker

Paris has become the first restricted traffic area in France. This means that all vehicles travelling in the capital must now carry a ‘Crit’

In Issigeac we are very fortunate to have such a great choice of places to eat. As well as L'Atelier (mentioned the National Geographic article) we also have La Bruceliere, Le Bouchon Medieval and the Maison des Dimes.

From Normandy down to the Pyrenees, France is home to some of Europe’s best villages for food-lovers, with memorable restaurants, distinct signature dishes and iconic local ingredients

We, along with most of the rest of the world, have been shocked and horrified by the war underway in the Ukraine. We want to do something to support the Ukrainians but it is difficult to know what to do for the best. Providing safety and shelter to the refugees would not be feasible due to our commitments to our existing guests and anyway, being in a rural location, it is not really practical. So we have decided to donate 5% of our earnings this year to the Disaster Emergency Committee, a charity bringing together 15 UK charities to provide support to overseas crises. This small sacrifice by us is nothing like those being made by the brave Ukrainian people. Long live freedom, long live democracy.
