The Slow Cyclist Extraordinary e-biking & walking adventures for curious travellers across Europe and beyond.

The Slow Cyclist offers extraordinary cycling and walking adventures for the culturally curious. We believe that travel is worth taking time over; that a great holiday means getting under the skin of a place, meeting its people, indulging in its culture and understanding its history and customs. Having welcomed our first guests to Transylvania in 2015, we now take guests to little-known corners across Europe and Africa.

We're delighted to be included in the FT's 50 holidays to take in 2025 🙌

"The Slow Cyclist, known for small-group itineraries across Europe and parts of Africa, is running a new trip to Portugal’s Côa River in April to catch the sensational swaths of wildflowers that flourish in this remote, unspoilt region of oak groves. The five-night itinerary by e-bike and on foot begins in the fortified 13th-century town of Sortelha and ends in the Douro Valley, taking a winding route through one of Europe’s largest rewilding projects, which includes the reintroduction of Sorraia horses."

It's time to wrap up 2024 and say a huge thank you to our wonderful guides across the world.

They are historians, musicians, ecologists, athletes, writers, and more... but what they all have in common is a passion for their country that brings our guests' experiences to life.

We couldn't do it without them. Bring on 2025.

We've worked with some wonderful photographers this year and love seeing the world through their different styles.

But one thing they all have in common?

They can't resist a photo of the local cats and dogs.

Here are just some of our favourites.

'Poland’s most underrated region'

After joining us in Poland, James Stewart wrote in The Sunday Times that Lower Silesia 'isn’t dramatic or shouty. It’s quiet, slyly seductive; a storybook place where minding-their-own-business hills shelter quiet villages’, a ‘bucolic fairytale land of sleepy beauty at Europe’s heart, a place positively creaking with culture’.

We couldn't have put it better. A rare idyll.

We can't wait for the return of sunny days and picnics like these... ☀️

Our expedition along the extraordinary Via Transilvanica has officially begun 🚵

It differs from our Classic Journeys. It's not for everyone. But for those who are up for an adventure and a bit of burn in the legs, it's an incredible way to explore the fairytale landscape of Bucovina in north-east Romania.

Thanks for the photos ryan_le_garrec

WHAT. A. TEAM.

They've been giving Slow Cyclists in Transylvania the most memorable experiences on two wheels for a decade now.

Cooks, drivers, truffle hunters, guides, hosts, botanists, sommeliers. Magic.

Seen here at our end of season party last week. Bring on spring 2025 in Transylvania with this wonderful lot.

The Slow Cyclist Story

We take small groups of curious travellers on extraordinary bicycle journeys because we believe travel is worth taking time over; that a great holiday means getting under the skin of a place by delving into its cuisine, history, customs and, of course, getting to know its people.

In 2019 our founder Oli Broom was recognised by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the world’s top travel specialists. But The Slow Cyclist journey began a decade earlier when, dissatisfied with a steady career in London, Oli quit his job, jumped on a bike and cycled to Australia to watch The Ashes cricket series between England and Australia. It took him 412 days which means that, by any definition, he is a bona fide slow cyclist. A book followed. Cycling to the Ashes: A Cricketing Odyssey from London to Brisbane was published July 2013, while Oli was living and working in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, leading a charity project to build an unlikely but much-needed home for cricket in the country. He lived there for two years, at weekends exploring all corners of the country by bike, and returned home in 2013 intent on taking others to experience Rwanda, and other beautiful parts of the world, by bicycle. The Slow Cyclist is the result and our mission is always to go the extra mile to give our guests incredible slow travel experiences with impeccable service at their core.
