The mighty, untamed Loire is bursting at its seams, flood plains are filling up and levies are keeping homes safe. Many of the cycle paths we enjoyed with our guests this year are now inaccessible but do you know this is a symbol of the freedom this region has to offer and it’s acknowledgement and total acceptance of Mother Nature. Not stepping on her toes by building houses on flood plains, but by building and using flat bottomed boats as the river ebbs and flows - maybe just thirty centimetres deep in the summer but now five metres deep covering and cleansing the ‘beaches’ we used at the height of the season

Autumn scenes here in the Loire Valley
A stunning scene last night in Chinon.
The reflection of the mighty Fortress in the mirror of the waters of the swollen Vienne river was breathtaking.
Here in the Loire Valley the rivers are untamed and so from a lazy river with revealed ‘beaches’ during the summer that all changes when the rains come (or the snow melts in the Alps) - the rivers will swell with the ancient levies protecting the towns and villages.

When starting a business there are so many worries and doubts, starting up in a different country 🤪 must be mad.
We started our little cycling holiday adventure in 2019, there have been a few headline obstacles on our journey, a pandemic, leaving the EU and war.

We have had the most amazing experience helping Bea and Etianne with their vendange. Their first day was harvesting the red Cabernet Franc grapes with the help of friends. The red grapes will be gently pressed to extract only the juice to make a wonderful natural white wine. Bea is so very passionate and they are both so hard working we love and admire them for what they are doing. Thanks to them and our friends , , .laue for such a wonderful time. La vie en France est belle!

On this beautiful sun kissed day here in France friends and families are celebrating the 14th July as Fête National, also know as Bastille Day outside of France. A swim in the pool, a game of pétanque, bbq and wine while chatting and laughing and finally a firework display which occurs in almost every village and town around half ten once the sun has gone down! Tchin, tchin!

A hot tub is the name given to describe a tub filled with hot water for people to relax in, usually outdoors. … and so the ‘traffic’ along the Loire Valley rivers continue - this flat bottomed restaurant boat was travelling upstream from Montsoreau to Candes St Martin. We often comment on the ancient modes of river navigation- only flat bottomed boats can negotiate the water levels of the un- tamed Loire. Whichever season you visit us and depending on the weather influencing the mighty Loire there is always something to catch the eye and your imagination. As we passed through Chinon this evening we stopped to watch these two fishermen looking for the perfect spot from which to fish. They were moving upstream using a wooden pole.
