Hi everyone. Sorry it has been a while since we last posted here! We have decided to improve the main entrance to The Country Granary which involves some structural alterations and, therefore, it won't be available until next Spring. We will keep you updated and look forward to welcoming you all next year! 🌻🌳🦋🙂

Almost ready to open! We have had a few small delays but for the nature lovers out there, here are some photos of the butterflies we get here throughout the summer months (with a couple of bee photos thrown in!) We don't use any chemicals on the land so we get to see these beauties every year! 😃

The Country Granary is located in a beautiful and tranquil area of north west France called the Pays de la Loire within easy reach of most ferry ports (2 hours from Caen, 2.5 hours from Cherbourg, 3.5 hours from Dieppe etc......5.5 hours from Calais but a lovely drive down on blissfully quiet roads!). The local towns and villages in our area have lovely little restaurants where you can have a great 3 course lunch menu (which generally has a litre of wine included!). All the local towns have their own market days and there is an abundance of colour everywhere from the flower displays (many villages hold their own competitions for the best gardens!)

The Pays de la Loire is well known for its chateaux and there are many to visit in our area, for example Lassay les Chateaux (photo). The more well known chateaux of the Loire Valley are not too far away either if you fancy a drive down to see this amazing UNESCO World Heritage site. You will drive past Le Mans to get there, though, so you may just have to stop there! (Le Mans dates for 2018....Moto GP 18 - 20 May, 24 Heures Le Mans 15 - 17 June, Classic Le Mans 6 - 8 July).

The D Day beaches in Normandy are an absolute must-see along with the WWII cemeteries (the nearest being the American cemetery at St James). Nothing puts our lives into perspective better than a visit to one of these beaches or cemeteries. (Photos of Juno beach and Omaha beach).

Finally, for now, the Tour de France is coming to our area!! In fact, on Friday 13th July, it leaves Fougères (a lovely town in Brittany with medieval castle) and heads straight for us and will be whizzing through the next little village to us and on down to our main shopping town of Mayenne! More to come soon ....

So, after three years of unforeseen events, we will finally be opening our gite, the Country Granary, this year! It is a sympathetically restored granary (as the name suggests!) with exposed grown oak beams, chandeliers and a cathedral ceiling. There are two bedrooms (one double room and one twin room) with an extra single bed on a mezzanine above overlooking the spacious and comfortable lounge, dining area and kitchen. There is a bathroom with separate shower and the gite sleeps 5.

Set in almost 20 acres of gorgeous, secluded and private land, it is the perfect place to escape to from the stresses of modern life. Nature and wildlife lovers, birdwatchers, history lovers and walkers will love it. As for 'petrolheads', we are only an hour and a half from the iconic circuit of Le Mans and we have a large, secure parking area with garaging available for your car or bike! All of the usual facilities are available including wifi and there is a log burning fire in the corner of the lounge.
