If you see a stranded seal, dolphin, porpoise or whale on our beaches, please follow the following advice:

• Give them plenty of space from yourself, dogs and children
• Keep noise to a minimum
• Remember that psychological stress can be lethal to them and they may bite

After stormy weather and / or high tides, seals will haul out on beaches to rest and regain their strength. Many do not need first aid, but if you suspect the animal may be abandoned, thin, ill or injured, please call British Divers Marine Life Rescue on their 24 hour rescue hotline:
01825 765546

❓Think before you jump! ❓

👉Enjoy the waters and coastline of the but don’t be tempted to jump from piers or from height into the water.

🔹Consider the risks to yourself and others. Young people could be watching and may attempt to mimic the activity.
🔹The depth of water can dramatically change with the tide and you don’t know what hazards may be lurking under the surface.
🔹The shock of cold water may make it difficult to swim to safety and strong currents can quickly sweep people away.

We are trying to resolve an issue with our Members only group within this page. Can you help us out ?
Some invitations to join have been sent to members this evening. If you have received one via a Facebook or email link, please could you let us know, even if you do not want to join.
If you wish to join in the Harwich and Dovercourt Beach Hut Association group follow the link, you will be in preview mode to start with , click request to join and an ADMIN will let you in.
If you know someone who is already in the group they can add you through the group on the group page.
We have to work through Meta Business now and it’s not as easy as normal Facebook invitations to join a private group !!!
Those of you that have asked to join previously and haven’t been able to get into the group, Meta have suggested to check you are using your Facebook sign in email address and not a secondary address.
Hope that makes sense, after all these years we are having to learn how to use Facebook again 😔

28/04/2023

Thank you to those of you that contacted us this morning. We were aware and Tendring District Council have been informed.

11/04/2023

UPDATE ON THE WATER
There is still a problem with the burst water main near the RUGBY CLUB. No water to any taps, toilets at West End closed and the Swimming Pool closed for the rest of the day.
We will post another update tomorrow asap.

07/04/2023

We have been asked many, many questions, and have had to resend a few email copies of this years newsletter, ( due to a technical hitch ) hopefully all members have received the newsletter now, if you haven't please email,
[email protected].
We have answered everyone in private messages, Facebook messages and e-mails, if we have missed anyone please remind us. Those of you that want Heathers help, she will be back with us next week, she has a very long list to get through and will do it as quickly as possible.
We attended an Association Forum meeting with TDC yesterday, there is further information available on the Commercial Leases, these Leases are for Hut Owners looking to rent their huts for more than 10 days this coming year, it was believed these Leases would be put out for tender this year and to be in place by April 1st next year, we now know they will be started this season, probably by beginning of May. We are only aware of 4 association members that rent regularly, if you are a member, and have applied for a Commercial Lease, we are happy to help you with advice, as best we can, drop us a private message, or call the contact number within the Newsletter.
One of the water taps by the Back Row Huts facing the Rugby pitch was reported as stuck on flowing, TDC is aware and have had to call out Affinity Water late this afternoon, hopefully it has been fixed, the ground and grass bank is saturated, but it should soak away very quickly.
Lets hope this better weather stays with us over the weekend, it was lovely to see owners cleaning out their huts today.
Summers on it's way

26/03/2023

Our 2023 Newsletter has been sent to all Beach Hut Owners that have requested to receive it via e-mail.
Please check your email spam or junk boxes as we find sometimes they do tend to end up in there !!
If you have changed your email address in the last 12 months, please let us know we can resend it at any time.

JUST ONE SMALL OMISSION !!

We have failed to put in a date and time for the AGM, oops 😯 …. We will put out another post asap when we have booked the Venue, hopefully as usual it will be at the Rugby Club, around the end of May.

This article about our e-petition in the Harwich Standard is incorrect .

Our e-petition is objecting to the introduction of leases for owners who do NOT rent out their huts. It was published to allow beach hut owners to sign if they disagree with this being implemented. The introduction of commercial leases to owners that rent out their huts for more than 10 days per year, has been agreed and passed.
The leases will make hut ownership prohibitively expensive and due to the possibility of the leases only being short term it will make the huts very difficult to sell.
PLEASE, PLEASE continue to sign our petition, our objections need to be heard.

Residents have until June 30 to sign the petition.

We have no words !!!!

We have no words !!!!

The new strategy follows a review of the existing document, adopted in 2013, and was subject to two consultations in 2022 – which led to more than 4,000 responses being received by the council.

We have just picked this information up from the other district beach hut associations.
Towergate Insurance will no longer be insuring Beach Huts in the future.
There are alternative providers,
Loveyourhut.com
James Hallam
Insuremyhuts.co.uk ( new broker, if you get a quote, please share with us whether its a good or bad price )
Adrian Flux.co.uk ( quoting a good price at the moment )
Unfortunately none of these providers give a discount to Beach Hut Association Members. We are hoping Ryan's of Ipswich will still give hut owners the same service with the discount, but sadly they have now become part of the James Hallam group and a few of our members have told us their renewal is a 10-15% increase on last year. It therefore may be a good idea to go to James Hallam direct, as a new customer.
Always make sure the cover is appropriate for your hut use and shop around.
Please share with us any positive or negative experiences, especially if you may have had to make a beach hut related claim.

If you need any help with insuring your hut, drop us a message.
