A peaceful 2 minutes by the Gite entrance this morning. Butterflies loving the Lavender, Humming Bird Moths doing what they do, Birds singing in the trees and the Geraniums flowering wonderfully.
All is well here in Vijon.
Festival of Flowers
The garden at The Barn at Vijon is putting on a great show - unfortunately this year there's no audience!
(There is a soundtrack to put you in the mood!)
The good thing is we can guarantee that in 2021 it will be the same if not even better - we can't wait to see you!
"Le Machaon" Loving the Lavender - at The Barn at Vijon
(The Swallowtail) is a relatively large butterfly characterized by its large wings decorated with a "tail" or extension at their posterior end. Present throughout the territory of metropolitan France, it is however a protected species in certain regions of Eastern Europe. The Machaon butterfly is distinguished by its long gliding flights and the contrasting yellow and black colours of its wings.
They said it'd be mostly cloudy today - well I'd take cloudy any day in Vijon. How about it? Next summer perhaps?

🌞😎 The Barn at Vijon - bringing you a flavour of
our Summer here in beautiful rural Central France.
#BookDirect NOW at www.barnatvijon.com
So, after wallowing in our success yesterday with our quality of service award, today I put my financial hat on! It's lovely being (and we need to continue to be) featured on so many on-line booking sites but did you know that the average commission we pay per booking via these sites is 15% yes, 15%. On a typical summer week that equates to £90 WE pay to the likes of Expedia, Homeaway, Airbnb, Booking, TripAdvisor and the rest. On many of these sites the guest ALSO pays a booking fee, which is in addition to our published tariff. The story here is if you do a search for accommodation on line and you find somewhere that you want then DO PLEASE LOOK for the property's own website and #BookDirect. You'll always get the cheapest rate and you'll be dealing direct with the owner. Remember (and especially if it is a return stay) #BookDirect and for us you can do that at www.barnatvijon.com

Beautiful day here in Vijon, view from the Gite was stunning as the clouds cleared
Cheeky little FB video of some of the views/spaces our guests can enjoy when they are staying with us this year. Our busy season is about to begin and the wonderful weather has come along too!
The Barn at Vijon 1st July - Summer is here!
Château de Valençay is a 90 minute drive north from the Barn at Vijon and is open daily March to November and in the lead up to Christmas.
The Renaissance and Classical Château de Valençay is an architectural jewel in the heart of the Berry region. In the 19th century, Napoleon's minister of foreign affairs, Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand, organised lavish receptions there in honour of foreign high dignitaries.
The château is a remarkably well-preserved listed historic monument. It boasts a superb Renaissance keep, a magnificent Italian arcaded gallery, an elegant Classical-style wing and corner towers with domed roofs. Inside, the sumptuously-furnished rooms such as the Grand Salon, Prince of Talleyrand's Chamber, Blue Salon, Study, Music Salon, King of Spain's Chamber, Duchess of Dino's Chamber, Dining Room, Grand Butlery and kitchens testify to the Château's past splendour.
Surrounding the château are wonderful gardens to stroll around. Featuring a formal garden (Jardins à la Française) with pristine beds, the Damier Fleuri, a patchwork of meadow flowers, the Jardin de la Duchesse with a terrace overlooking the green Nahon valley, a deer park, a children's playground and Napoleon's maze, they will delight both grown-ups and kids.
Daytime and evening shows starring costumed actors and candlelit visits are put on during the summer season.
Bourges Cathedral is 90km from the Barn at Vijon and is well worth the 1 1/2 hour drive. The Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Cathedral of St Etienne of Bourges, built between the late 12th and late 13th centuries, is one of the great masterpieces of Gothic art and is admired for its proportions and the unity of its design. The tympanum, sculptures and stained-glass windows are particularly striking. Apart from the beauty of the architecture, it attests to the power of Christianity in medieval France.
