A popular resort for many years it has a thriving little harbour and sits within Snowdonia National Park, where the river Dyfi meets the blue waters of Cardigan Bay. Aberdovey is a haven for those wanting to spend an energetic outdoor holiday. For families there is plenty of opportunity to build sand castles on the golden sandy beach or enjoy the excitement of crabbing from the pier. At the other end of the spectrum you can enjoy easy access to mountain climbing, hill walking and mountain biking on some of the most challenging, scenic and rewarding places in the United Kingdom. For those who enjoy water sports, Aberdovey offers a fantastic choice including sailing, canoeing, surfing, paddle boarding, kite surfing and windsurfing. Equipment can be hired locally if required from "The Rise" in Tywyn. Finally for golf enthusiasts Aberdovey Golf Club is ranked in the UK’s top 100 courses. Prefer to do things at a more leisurely pace, then hop aboard the Cambrian Coast Railway, where you can enjoy spectacular scenery from the comfort of your seat. A short journey along the coast road will bring you to the town of Tywyn. There is a variety of local shops, petrol station, bank, bakery and 2 small supermarkets. Here you will also find "The Rise" where kayaks, paddle boards, wetsuits and buoyancy aids can be hired. A mile or so to the north of the town is the Broad Water lagoon fed by the Afon Dysynni as it flows to Cardigan Bay. The lagoon is noted for fishing, and canoeing and is also a popular spot for bird-watching. However one needs to follow the Dysynni river upstream to find the jewels in the crown of Tywyn - the Dysynni and the Fathew Valleys. Tywyn also has a large Leisure Centre which is open daily and comprises of a fully equipped fitness suite, studios, indoor and outdoor courts and swimming pool along with children's holiday activities.
