Tranquil, cosy, seaside self catering cottage at the edge of the land, by the coast path in beautiful mid Wales. Tiny cottage, made for two.

Perfect place for walking, swimming and relaxing.

Tonight's healthy supper of roast chicken with salad from the garden has been replaced with butter and garlic fried puffball from the fields! With eggs from the hens and crispy bacon! There will be more and the field mushroom season is starting. Do help yourselves if you are staying here and are confident identifying them. Puffballs are at least football sized when we find them and pure white all through. Field mushrooms grow in profusion virtually every year.
It is a rainy afternoon so we gritted our teeth and decided to try the butterfly house in the Rheidol valley. School holidays, a rainy day... sounds dreadful but it was fabulous! Yes, it was busy, yes it was full of families but it was great! Full of mesmerised adults and entranced children! We were there for hours and I can't wait to go back. The staff are lovely and I've had a butterfly question answered that's been bugging me (๐) for ages. We seem to have arrived home with two more stick insects as well.
(The cake is very good as well.)
Look what I missed last night!
My family were outside capturing beautiful pictures of the meteor shower AND wondrous Northern Lights and I was asleep! ๐

Aberystwyth has plenty of interesting independent shops. Here's a great place to start and they'll give you a treasure map to encourage you to find some more.
It's not the only excellent bookshop, look out for Oxfam Books and Ystwyth Books with their very eclectic collections.

Have you ever watched silage being wrapped? This is not a helpful video as I was surrounded by small children and large gossiping family at the time! It was the best I could manage!

We have four nights available in August if anyone is interested? Monday 12th until Friday 16th. Harvesting *should* have finished by then. We have given up trying to make hay this year but have plenty of good silage. We've had good walking weather mxed with quite a bit of evening swimming sunshine weather but hay needs longer to make. Several days of good sunshine, rather than days or hours of it dotted here and there.

Machynlleth holds what sounds like a really fun comedy festival, every year and I have never been! We are always in the thick of lambing and no-one can be spared from the fam so I was very pleased to see that the organisers are doing the same thing in Aberystwyth, in October!
Come and stay at the cottage and have a laugh!

Sometimes it's just great to be a tourist in your own home town. We took the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution hill and watched the rain sweeping across the whole of Cardigan Bay, fortunately mostly just missing us. Then a wander round the Castle and time to watch and listen to the swifts. The focus was a bit on what would entertain a 2 year old, every one on the train was told that 'this is fun' and I was directed to the 'pink' shop on Pier Street for a tub of ice cream (https://www.facebook.com/AICCaberystwyth/?locale=en_GB). It's worth a detour, it was delicious.

This is a bit of Glyndwr's Way and also a bit of the Coast Path, yes honestly! The Dyfi estuary is very wide. It's crossed by the railway and the road quite a way up in Machynlleth. (Or straight across at a narrow point by longboats on their way to a quick pint in Aberdyfi before rowing back home as the moon sets!) The Coast Path leaves the sea in Borth and strikes across the bog to Taliesin. It goes up green hills and quiet lanes skirting round and through Machynlleth and at most times of the year is completely beautiful!

Navy blue horizon and sheets of rain. Rather beautiful.

I got out early this morning as it looked like rain. I love the watercolour skies and the clarity of colour and light. The dogs really don't get my frequent stops when we have a job to do.
Borth, a tiny, former fishing village with so much going on!
Thank you Hannah Mann for this incredible work of art of a map!

It was ridiculously early, that's my excuse for the wobbly video but this is looking down to the cottage listening to the beautiful dawn chorus!
That's Pws by the way. A feral cat who we kept seeing around the farm in poorer and poorer condition and often pregnant. She won't have any more now and at the same time she decided that life on the sofa was pretty good.

Gold. The tree, the bird or the pony.
Sunshine and showers.

BLUE flags will be flown at four Ceredigion beaches this year.
The prestigious flags โ the gold standard for beach quality worldwide โ have been awarded to Borth, Aberystwyth South, Llangrannog and Tresaith.

I still have this date free in the cottage! There are some amazing local artists, the craft fair will have some stunning work available.
I have been organising Borth craft fair for over 10 years now.
For those that donโt know Borth, itโs a small village on the west coast of Wales in the county of Ceredigion. It is very rural and there arenโt many people, but like all cool places to live, there are lots of creatives, making amazing work.
I curate the fair with a selection 30 local artists and makers, providing an inexpensive showcase for them to share their work.
This fair, on 26th May is part of
โCo creating and showcasing the innovative, free spirited community of Borthโ, their words not mine!
A weekend of creative events in the village, itโs going to be fun!
Not a great photo but I didn't want to disturb the bird too much. This is a herring gull and her/his nest in the ponies paddock at the side of the drive! I haven't seen this before. It's a nest made of moss and horse poo (well it will be warm!) just a little bit raised up in the field. I am a bit sceptical about it's chances of surviving. The ponies have avoided it so far and a fox wouldn't take on the two of them but a badger and there is a crow keeping his eye on them as well. Fingers crossed!
Don't forget to book a trip out to sea when you visit!

There's a certain 'caught in the act' look about these two... ๐
28/04/2024
There are some lovely lanes all around the farm that lead to sweeping views over the mountains but look how pretty the lanes themselves are at the moment. The three cornered leek is in a patch at the side of a lane that runs between our fields and really could do with being pulled up and eaten!

It's that time of year again! This was number 200, several days ago now! She's picked a lovely sheltered spot to have her lamb.
21/04/2024
It's a pretty walk down the drive to the cottage and it's used by several creatures. This is a badger track. A snuffle for worms along the edge of the drive then cut across the field to the stream.

Negative advertising... What can you expect to find when you come and stay in the cottage?
Nothing, blue, beautiful nothing.
Well maybe birds and the shush of the waves.

Most years I take a photo of this little bit of the woods, the margin between the buebells and the wild garlic. I am a little early. In a few days the bluebells will be properly out but I think it's quite clear which plant enjoyed the hot summer followed by the wet winter most!
The bluest of blue bluebell wood is on the other side of the stream.

At the bottom of this lane is the sea...and the cottage.

Nothing to do all day but listen to the waves roll the pebbles on the beach and wait for the seal to reappear.

We have a lovely visitor staying at the moment who makes dleictely balanced sculptures on the beach. Apparently they are also terrifying and need to be told! Beth, junior sheepdog and ridiculously soppy!
Sunrise and the dawn chorus.
This is our miniature horse.
(As I said, I am experimenting, sometimes successfully!
Croeso, welcome to our perfect little place by the sea!
Our two cottages are set in beautiful countryside on our farm in mid Wales, mid way between Aberystwyth and Borth. Weโve made them snug and cosy for the winters when you can come and enjoy exhilarating storms and wild seas and in the summer we are expecting sand and swimming costumes in the shower and pebbles and shells in forgotten heaps in the garden!
The Greenhouse is a tiny cottage a stones throw (literally) from the beach and the Wales Coast path. The Lodge is a little bigger, with a double room and the option of a small double in another room or travel cot if needed. Unfortunately as a result of the current situation, the Lodge is unavailable for the time being. My daughter, a care worker, is borrowing it! There is a short walk through the fields down our private drive to the beach.
I hope we have everything you need for a relaxing peaceful time. There is beautiful country to explore inland and rocky shores and beaches along the coast path. The farm is a haven for wildlife with ponds, streams and woods as well as open grassy hilltops. On clear days you can look north into Snowdonia or inland to the wide Pumlumon range. There is free wifi in the Lodge but the GreenHouse does not have internet access and mobile reception ranges from variable to none so you can drop out of the world for a few peaceful days. We are however just under five miles from the University town of Aberystwyth with many varied and interesting places to visit and if you go the other way up the coast we are three miles from the little surfing village of Borth.
There are great places to visit all around and some fabulous places to eat if you donโt fancy cooking or picnicking!
Our hens, guinea fowl and sheep are all free range so we cannot accept dogs.
