Another fabulous National Trust day out in our region is Southern Lighthouse, opened in 1871, Souter was a marvel of its age standing proudly on the coastline midway between the Tyne and the Wear. While there we enjoyed a walk along the Coastal Pathway & a visit to the seaside would not be complete without fish & chips!!

Ok, we're not messing about here...
The next few months we're hopeful of seeing the magnificent Aurora Borealis many more times as it reaches the peak of its cycle in the next 12 months.
In the UK, Aurora season starts with the return of dark skies in August and continues all the way through to early May. The chance of seeing it is slightly elevated near the equinox months (Sept, Oct, March, April). You'll always need a clear night, but to get the very best views, you'll also need dark skies and minimum light pollution.
So our Aurora events are now back on sale! Come and learn about those wonderful pillars of colour in the sky and maybe, just maybe, you'll get to see them on your visit too!

Bamburgh has won the ‘Which’ best beach 2024 again this year, with beautiful golden sandy beaches and absolutely stunning views we’re not surprised❤️

We had a lovely day out at Gibside an National trust property. There are some great walks around the Estate, a Walled Garden and lots of interesting history.

Popped into Hexham Abbey this morning to take a look at the New Exhibition commissioned by National Trust. And what a treat it was to see the aptly named ‘Heartwood’ which brings to life the well loved and greatly missed Sycamore Gap.
Created by artist Shona Branigan it is a beautiful print showing every ring and groove on the heart shaped trunk from the 200 year old iconic tree.
It is well worth a visit, on show till 1st September.
Other prints can also be viewed at Housesteads Roman Fort Newcastle City Library & History at Carlisle Tourist information Centre

A great day out at Lindisfarne, Northumberland (Holy Island) started off misty then the sun shone beautifully☀️. Lindisfarne is a tidal island (so tide times need to be checked) and is steeped in history as one of the most important centres of early English Christianity, Irish monks settled here in AD 635 to Viking invasions, the castle (National Trust) was built to protect the area from the Scot’s & now has a beautiful garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll. Tyne Green Country Park has new natural paving, this is a memorial to Queen Elizabeth II by Northumberland County Council. It is a fabulous riverside walk & is the host to Park Runs - better still it is only a short drive from Atte Combe Cottage!
