Alderney Ferry Services has got some exciting news and it has been very hard to keep it quiet especially on our small island.

Over the last few weeks we have been working quietly away to acquire our new vessel. Today we can confirm Alderney Ferry Services Limited has purchased our first vessel. Daniel Slimm our company director/lead skipper travelled to the furthest north of Scotland this week to get her. More details will be revealed tomorrow so watch this space and we anticipate being in operation from the 1st July possibly earlier.

Even bigger news, we have been working hard to achieve something better for Alderney! We are collaborating with The Salty Blonde to give the best service possible to our community. Our economy is suffering and a lot of us are now seeing this! Between us and Salty Blonde we want to bring a diverse schedule to ensure Alderney and its future has the best sea links possible and bring our beautiful island busy again.

Without Julie-Anne Uggla at Blonde Hedgehog, who has kindly helped with financial support and Tracey Farquhar-Beck’s advice, we would not be here today. As a small family business, we are very appreciative. We know that with our two businesses working together we can help encourage competitive businesses to do the same for the overall benefit of Alderney.

Still some dates in Sept in case anyone’s looking.

It’s the news many of you have been waiting for. 😁

Alderney will be ready to welcome UK visitors back from 1st July, with no testing or self-isolation requirements on arrival.

This decision is based on the current progress being made with the Bailiwick vaccination programme which, like that in the UK, is progressing quickly.

It’s time to start booking your Alderney summer holiday!

76 years on. Happy Liberation to all in Alderney & Guernsey.

HAPPY LIBERATION DAY to our friends on Guernsey & Jersey!

Liberation Day remains an incredibly important day in our big sister islands calendar as they reflect, remember, commemorate and celebrate the liberation of the islands after five years of occupation by German forces during World War II.

Did you know, Alderney doesn't celebrate Liberation Day? At the end of the war, the islanders of Alderney, which were evacuated during the war, did not return to the island until December 15th 1945. We celebrate this important date every year as "Homecoming Day".

The AWT is delighted that Roland has been nominated for Conservation Hero with the Pride of Guernsey awards!

I you have a spare moment please do follow the link below and give Roland a vote - open until the 27th

The AWT was the first charity on the island set up solely for the conservation and protection of wildlife and the environment. Since then we've set up the nature reserves on Alderney, manage the island's Ramsar site, featured Alderney in Countryfile, Coast, national press and many more, and have campaigned for the environmental law currently in the process of being approved by the States and so much more!

Roland would prefer if we could nominate the whole team - as the AWT is not just about one person - but please do consider supporting the AWT with your vote 🗳

Definitely worth joining and supporting if you can.

The Alderney Wildlife Trust (AWT) is the only organisation on Alderney dedicated to the protection of the island's wildlife, and the only Wildlife Trust in the Channel Islands. Membership is the Trust's most important source of income and is vital to its survival.

Our island is steeped with history. Did you know a burial chamber dating from 4,000 BC survives near Fort Tourgis! 😍

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SOUTHAMPTON AIRLINK TO ALDERNEY'S BUSINESS COMMUNITY: YOUR RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMING!

Following Council's meeting with Deputy Charles Parkinson (Economic Development Committee) on Tuesday 12 November, we invited all our members to let us have your feedback regarding
i) The financial implications to your business if we lose the route
ii) Other ways it could affect your business model - such as fewer staff, relocating etc.

Thank you for your comments which initially amounted to over 18 pages of comments, and have been consolidated into 2 pages.

The letter and report published on our website was sent to all members of the Guernsey Committee for Economic Development and was also handed to all our States Member and CEO Andrew Muter.

Great news for European visitors.

Manche Iles boost to Alderney economy next year
Press release issued by the States of Alderney yesterday 26 November:

A deal struck between Alderney and the Manche Iles Express line could see a large increase in visitors from France next year.
And in a further boost to the island’s economy, increased numbers of sailings will offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy Alderney hospitality with overnight and four- or six-night visits.
Manche Iles has already announced it will increase scheduled rotations from a dozen this year to 17 in 2020, and has now announced an additional seven direct crossings from France. In all there will be 13 rotations direct to Alderney from France and 11 via Guernsey.
This also creates additional opportunities for Alderney residents to visit Normandy.
The Policy & Finance Committee has ratified a deal to subsidise Manche Iles 2020 sailings to Alderney up to a maximum of £10,000 – but it may not cost a penny if the company reaches break-even passenger numbers.
For example, the Granville capacity is 240 passengers with a break-even of 130 so if a sailing does not achieve that figure, Alderney would pay the ticket value for the shortfall at the end of the season.
If all 24 rotations average 180 passengers, Alderney could be welcoming 4,320 visitors next year without triggering the subsidy. This compares with 4,300 movements on the Little Ferry in 2019 at a subsidy of £98,000.
Visit Alderney is to work closely with Manche Iles Express to market the island in France.
