If you’re seeking a change of scenery, perhaps working by the sea or deep in the mountains or even from a coworking space in a European city, the digital nomad lifestyle could be for you. The amount of people working remotely around the world quadrupled between 2015 and 2023.

Part of the astronomical rise in the number of digital nomads has been facilitated by the increase in countries offering the digital nomad visas So, if you want to dip your toe into the global community of wanderlust-driven professionals, we’ve summarised everything you need to know.

A digital nomad visa allows remote workers to live and work in a foreign country anywhere from six months to two years. Digital nomad visas have been created to attract freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote employees who earn their income from sources outside the host country.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this post including:

Holidays can be some of the best times of your life; strolling down the beach with your partner, enjoying dinner out with friends and family and creating fond memories to look back on!

Sadly for some travellers, it isn’t always as straightforward as that.

In some countries where homosexuality is still prosecuted, holding hands with your boyfriend or girlfriend in public can become a political statement and can be met with hostility.

We’re here to offer some advice about LGBTQ+ friendly destinations, how to get through the airport and what worldwide events are a must see. Read the full details on our blog:

How can you change your gender and name on your passport? Will it take a long time? Is there a lot of paperwork?

We sent out a survey to LGBTQ+ and transgender groups to see what hurdles they came up against and what advice they have.
88% of those surveyed said it was definitely worth changing your gender and name on your passport and would recommend it to someone else.

HM Passport Office states that passport changes and renewals take around 3 weeks. Based on responses from our survey, most applications take between 2 weeks and 6 months* to complete.

Spain celebrates the start of summer in June and June 24th (Saint John or Sant Joan) is a national holiday in Catalonia.

The celebrations begin the night before, the 23rd and it is a night of eating and drinking and dancing. Sant Joan is sometimes called the 'Nit del Foc' - which means the 'Night of Fire' because there are several fireworks on the night.

Sant Joan is one of the most important holidays in Catalonia as it is Sant Joan's birthday and the summer solstice which marks the beginning of summer.

On June 23rd, many people organise their own parties called 'Reveltes' and they have a big dinner with family and friends. Others go to the beach and party there where there is often live music.

May 1st is Labour Day and is a national holiday for many countries in Europe. It is also known as International Workers Day and its history goes back to April 1856 when stonemasons in Melboure, Australia protested against the poor working conditions. They eventually reached an agreement with employers which led to the establishment of the eight-hour working day.

This was an impetus for further action and on May 1st, 1886, 200,000 U. S. workmen protested for an eight-hour day. May 1st was part of what became known as the Haymarket affair and 3 years later, May 1st was declared an international holiday for labor by the International Socialist Conference.

This week is St. George's Day.
April 23rd celebrates the life of St. George, the patron saint of England. In some parts of the UK, there are festivals or fairs and marching bands and parades.

In Catalonia in Spain, there are also celebrations on this day and it is called La Diada de Sant Jordi. It is also known as The Day of Books and Roses as on this day, couples exchange roses and books. Since the 1920's men gave women roses and women gave them a book but now women also receive books and give roses. La Diada de Sant Jordi is more popular than Valentine's Day and the cities and towns in Catalonia are decorated with red roses and the shops are full of people purchasing their book gift.

Did you change your clocks yesterday? Clocks go forward in the spring making our mornings lighter and the days longer.

In the UK, we have been practicing putting the clocks forward by an hour since 1916 when Parliament passed the Summer Time Act.

It was William Willett who first published a pamphlet, 'The Waste of Daylight', about changing the clocks in the spring and putting them back in the autumn.
