Heres one of the first Puffin Chick or โ€˜Pufflingโ€™ of the 2024 season at Coquet Island.
Do you know it takes about 40 days after hatching before the Puffling will leave the nest & once ready Pufflings fledge at night when itโ€™s safer, once they leave the nest a young puffin will spend the next couple of years at sea before itโ€™s ready to begin breeding.

Thank you to the thieves of Amble who have stolen and damaged a part of vital life saving equipment from one of our vessels taking it out of service! Also a large quantity of refuelling equipment has been stolen from our boat! CCTV footage from multiple locations will be passed onto the police later today, fuel theft is happening in the area

The Golden Puffin!
Our skipper Steven spotted this rare 'Golden Puffin' on todays boat trips and its the first time we have seen one at Coquet Island.

Its actually a lack of pigmentation and can be caused by a genetic condition called leucism, Puffin's do get this and appear a light white/brown colour. We will deffinitely be keeping an eye for this one!

Its been quite a week at the RSPB reserve with the special visitor the Bridled Tern and now the Golden Puffin has appeared!

Rare sighting - BRIDLED TERN

This bird has been causing quite a stir recently as it was spotted on Coquet Island by the RSPB Wardens Saturday evening, finally we caught a glimpse of the Bridled Tern as it settled down on the Island. The Bridled Tern is from a tropical climate so its a very long way from home! And is extremely rare to see it in the UK.
