It’s very rare for us to use the car whilst at the cabin but today we knew we had a long hard trek ahead of us so we made an exception. We parked at New Dungeon Ghyll and then climbed to Loft Crag followed by Thunacar Knott, then High Raise and Sergeant Man to finish. The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful walk with spectacular views. We will certainly sleep well tonight!

We spotted this beautiful slow worm on our walk yesterday. The colour was amazing

We haven’t done Loughrigg Fell for a couple of years so today we put that right. It’s the closest fell to Neaum Crag and so is easily done in a morning or afternoon from our cabin. Despite it being one of the smaller fells it certainly doesn’t disappoint with regards to the views it affords.

We ventured a little further today for our walk and bagged another Wainwright for our efforts, namely Stone Arthur. It’s a lovely walk and rewards with spectacular views

You don’t have to venture far from Neaum Crag to find wonderful scenes like these. This was yesterday’s walk just up the road to High Close Arboretum which is well worth a visit. It has some magnificent trees in there, many of which are labelled for identification along with a beautiful carpet of bluebells at this time of the year.

The first 4 pictures are taken from the entrance to Rydal Cave 5 weeks apart showing the difference now that the trees have been felled. This has been necessary due to the disease Ramorum, such a shame

We found a new wood for us to explore today which rewarded us with some spectacular bluebells. These can be found in Fishgarths Wood which is just below Lily Tarn.

It’s a few years since we did a quick walk around of the cabin in which time we have made some major upgrades so we thought it was time to make a new one. Please excuse the unmade beds as we were just leaving and Heather hadn’t yet worked her magic for our incoming guests.

We are delighted to share these images of our new kitchen for 2024 and hope that our regular and new guests will like it as much as we do. We have now provided a full size dishwasher and also a larger fridge freezer to make life easier whilst you holiday with us.

On the promise of high activity for the Northern Lights we set off into the dark to try and get a photo but alas I think we missed them. We did however get some beautiful night sky shots and if you look closely there is a hint of colour in some of them which may or may not be what we were seeking.

A lovely walk today from Neaum Crag to the Force Cafe Ambleside with our good friend Heather who many will know from their bookings at Neaum Crag. The weather was perfect and the view from the cafe is amazing. We even saw some Deer in the Stock Ghyll woods on our way back. Can you spot them on one of the photos.

It’s raining today but that doesn’t deter the birds from emptying our window feeder. It’s so busy it’s amazing they don’t fly into each other. When it’s empty they tap on the window to let us know!

It was very busy on the path to Elterwater today. I had to politely ask them to mooove on! We do love the Belted Galloway, they are so calm and quiet.

Plenty of water in Skelwith Force today

What a day yesterday with thunder and lightning and torrential rain. We couldn’t see Black Crag from our balcony but that didn’t matter as the birds provided us with ample entertainment despite the weather. I especially liked the bird sitting sheltering under the little roof keeping and eye on all its friends. Such a funny sight #neaumcrag #neaumcragservices #gardenbirdsuk

We took this short video today on the path beside Rydal Water. As you can see there are lots of tiny little frogs. As we walked along the path there were literally thousands as they went on for the whole length of the path and were also in abundance in the woods coming up from White Moss car park according to some fellow walkers we spoke to. You had to be extremely careful where you walked as they were everywhere.

This pair of blue tits are making use of one of our nesting boxes and are being kept very busy

The Blue tits are certainly keeping us entertained with their constant feeding routine. They must be exhausted. This pair decided to have their nest in the wall right outside our kitchen window. We also have a pair in one of our nesting boxes. Videos to follow
