"Always impressed by the cleanliness and comfort and the fact the owner maintains it to a very high standard. We loved the refitted shower room, so much so we've decided to do the same in our own home. We've also occasionally stayed in other independent properties in and around Ambleside, Grasmere, Hutton in the Forest, etc but none can compare to Hillhead and because of this we have booked again for August."
We're very fortunate that the house is very busy across the summer with only a couple of short break gaps available. There is currently reasonable autumn availability.

Availability update. Hillhead is busy for the remainder of December, but we do have availability for short breaks or longer stays in January, February and March. We can't promise snow or moody skies, but we can offer a log burner to warm up after a crisp winter walk.

The kitchen replacement works are finished and Hillhead is once again ready to receive guests.

Delighted with progress on the replacement kitchen! Second fix electrics still pending (Electrican has covid) and the granite cupboard k***s are still being made. The house will be available again very soon.

What a difference a week makes…!Fantastic work to refurbish the kitchen and hall floors and to repaint the kitchen. Sitting room floor is next followed by the kitchen installation.

Work on the replacement kitchen has started! A busy day and a half and it’s out with the old…. The decorators start next week to refinish all of the wooden floors and change the kitchen wall colour. Unit and appliance installation won’t be far behind.

Hillhead will be unavailable during early 2022 but if all runs to plan will be available again from late February.

Limited availability for the balance of this year:
October. A couple of short breaks: between 3rd and 8th and from 31st to the 5th November (so up to 5 night stays). Please message if interested.
November. Slightly more availability including a 7 night stay commencing Friday 26th.
December. 7 night stay available commencing Friday 10th.
The house will be unavailable during January and February as we plan to re-fit the kitchen - photos to follow as we make progress!

Another super review from a recent guest:

Hillhead was absolutely beautiful. The house had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. It was even better than the photographs and took our breath away when we saw the views from the balcony. The garden was a lovely, sheltered, private suntrap. The house is set on a hill so all we could hear was birdsong and sheep. The walk up from the town is uphill but well worth it for the peace and quiet. We loved every minute of our holiday and I wanted to pack the house up and take it with me. Would definitely recommend.

We're grateful for lovely review from a recent guest:

“We loved it .” The house is really well equipped- Better than we could have imagined. Not only is it well equipped but everything is decent quality. We brought things with us (eg a hand mixer and cake tins) that we didn't need so an inventory would be really useful. The only thing we brought that we were glad of was a portable USB lamp for the outside table at night. there is a light on the balcony but it wasn't bright enough and cast shadows. The driveway is just about big enough for 3 cars - two of ours are little so we managed but you'd not get 3 large cars on. This is a really lovely house that's kitted out like a home and would be great for 2-3 families or 4 couples.
