We won't say the obvious today.... but here is a little bit of information for 'Star Wars' fans. You probably know, but there may be some who don't!

A big surprise for us came in an email yesterday - we have been awarded
"Best Inbound Welsh Tour Operator 2024" in SME News 7th Annual UK Enterprise Awards. This is the second time we have been honoured with this award. As a fairly new company to inbound tourism to Wales we are really pleased that all our efforts on behalf of our clients are so appreciated.
Thank you!

Thanks Karan Waite Worth a read ...
When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then ?
A really good post that can't be shared often enough:
1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
8.
Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
9. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.
Instead of posting jokes, you're helping save lives by spreading this message.
❤️ COPY (hold your finger, click on the text and select copy, go to your own page and where you normally want to write, select finger again and paste)
Great to know!! Maybe it could save your life?

"You’ve been so very helpful with all our questions" .... "This is a great beginning" .... "What a delightful phone conversation. I look forward to seeing what plans you may suggest for our trip to Wales "..."Thanks so much for your patience with our questions. We are very happy so far"...."We are pleased with the itinerary".... "We’re excited to see what you come up with" .... "Thank you for your swift reply! My sister and I just got more excited" .... "THANK YOU !!! Wales Beckons" -
These are words and phrases received in the last few days from clients who have decided to entrust Wales Beckons with their holiday arrangements. So often we see reviews following a holiday being taken but for a change I though I would like to mention that a lot of hard work has to be done to secure bookings and I thank Peter for doing this so well following his recent brush with a serious illness. He has also been busy working on an itinerary for a lovely couple who have decided that India is where they should next visit. Whether the destination is Wales or India, the principal for curating a 'tailor-made' holiday is the same: keep the client happy. This involves a lot of listening and gentle persuasion, if necessary. And, of course experience and a knowledge of the destination is essential.

A terrific post from 'Welsh Histories' this morning. Just had to share.
Wales has many world firsts to its credit, but few are known about outside Wales.
Come and visit our lovely little country with us. Get in touch soon - the Summer is coming!

Yesterday we attended a presentation by Catherine Bailey Thomas and it turned out to be one of the best networking events I have ever been to. The venue at Space to Work in Llandeilo was perfect for Catherine's presentation. Her views on the subject of 'Listening' were very clearly explained. The round the table sections were immensely interesting as was the head to head section for two. Who would have thought that we do not listen often enough? We don't, seemingly. Thank you Catherine.

A great little snippet from Vist Swansea Bay today.
If you aren't Welsh, you may well have never heard of laverbread or cockles. When you visit Wales with 'Wales Beckons' do give them both a try as part of a 'Welsh breakfast'.

In continuation of my posting yesterday I should stress that we have not given up on our previous existence as outbound tour operators. Over the years we have been privileged to get to know many like minded people from various parts of the world and we did not want to loose our ability to maintain our contacts with these great people and now have set up an outbound division within Wales Beckons. Thus, if any of our old clients, or indeed new ones, want to explore other parts of the world, we can arrange that for them. Yes, we no longer arrange flights, but in today's world that is not a big deal for most people and we will always advise on what flights will be required.

01/01/2024

We wish all who have interacted with us already and anyone who is finding out about us today, a very happy 2024. May this year be one of happiness and peacefulness in all aspects of your lives.
Those of us involved in travel have had to deal with many tribulations and upsets over the last few years and current events in the world do not bode well for the kind of trouble free world we would surely like to see. But one has to be positive and, in our case surviving in a travel business for over 30 years has shown that we can survive. Even the closure of our long standing company NEI UK Ltd was viewed with stoicism and acceptance but that paved the way for us to concentrate on our latest venture which is starting a tour company specialising in tours of Wales, our home country. Ever since we were made aware of the dire extent of promotion of Wales as a destination in its own right and not as an adjunct to England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, we realised that what we had been doing for so many years should be applied to promoting Wales. In the context of running a tour company, ‘Wales Beckons’ is still a relatively new company, but, looking after the interests and happiness of the traveller, is a universal dogma for we travel people and our experience in this area cannot be bettered, meaning we are elated to have found a new niche for our talents.
This is not to say though that we have given up on our previous existence as outbound tour operators.
In our opinion, the role of a tour operator is now changing, or at least it is for us. Perhaps this is due to our long experience and contacts, especially in India which was where we first began our work in travel in 1993. We would never have anticipated in those far off days that we would be invited to speak on the subject of tourism at two of India's well respected universities. Likewise that we would be working on appointing agents in India and the US to promote Wales. And we now have an Indian Director. We are also very pleased to be in close talks with an exciting new project in India which is supporting a number of village women to improve on their skills in producing some excellent and fine embroidery work and finding markets for it in the UK. We have also been asked by Tamil Nadu Tourism to help them promote a new archaeological exploration in that state, which will seemingly be as important as those found at Mohenjodaro and the Indus Valley. Even here in Wales, we have been asked to address a local secondary school in Swansea on the subject of Sustainability.
Yes, these were unexpected but have happened. And all of this is immensely interesting for us and gratifying, but, tempus has done a bit of fugiting for us personally and we would welcome hearing from anyone who feels that working in this field would interest them. Despite everything going on in today's world, travel will still take place. With sustainable travel being very much to the fore, there will be challenges, but, for a satisfying and enjoyable way to earn a living, being 'in travel' would be hard to beat. Give us a call.

There are rich pickings on a trip through the mountains and valleys of Bannau Brycheiniog, formerly known as the Brecon Beacons. Whipping along these narrow lanes, you’ll discover a winery, a smokery, a roastery and a country inn where chefs riff creatively on hyper-local ingredients

I suspect that the Welsh people might not always be wondering what happened to their ancestors who took the momentous decision to leave their homeland many years ago. Only one thing is certain and that is that they died. We are happy to say that there are descendants of those people in the US today who care enough about some of their final resting places to ensure that their graves are looked after. The Poultney Area and St David's Society are doing sterling work looking after and renovating these graves. Credit to them for their efforts. If you would like to see what has been achieved so far we can help you. Contact us today at www.walesbeckons.co.uk

Our world famous Welsh poet and playwriter was born here in Swansea, south Wales.
Let us arrange a visit to his birthplace for you when we make your holiday in Wales. A few days in Swansea is never a waste of time and as well as visiting Dylan Thomas' birthplace, there are plenty of other things to see, too, not least the Marine Quarter and the marina, the Gower peninsula with its fabulous beaches & bays and elegant Mumbles.
Just ask us to make sure to include a few days in Swansea when you contact us. We're waiting to hear from you.

As one arrives outside 5 Cwmdonkin Drive on a steep street on the west side of Swansea, two blue plaques, one in English and one in Welsh, announce that this semi-detached property is the birthplace home of the legendary poet and writer Dylan Thomas. It was a newly built house when his parents, D. J...

A terrific 'tool' to help you correctly pronounce place names when you visit Wales (hopefully on a tour we will make specially for you!). Though the Welsh people you will meet are very tolerant of mispronounciation and will help you, too - if you want.
But this interactive map is not only educational, but fun, too.
