Are you a Hot Chocolate, curled up on the couch with a good book in front of a quietly chugging log burner type of person? Or are you a long walk on a Winter storm lashed beach, windy, wet and wild walks in big coats, bigger scarves, hats, gloves and wellies type of girl? Or are you just a guy who loves a low season bargain and the peace and quiet that's part of an out of season getaway? We're taking bookings now for late 2025 Winter getaways. Just drop us a pm or email and we'll get you sorted. Happy to help.

Cashtal yn Ard - Bit of History today in 360 format...

One of the largest and best preserved neolithic cairns in Britain

This is a magnificent setting on the top of a hill surrounded by open countryside, just north of Glen Mona. On clear days, it has wonderful views across to the Lake District

The site dates from about 1800BC and was originally covered with earth. It is one of the largest and best preserved Neolithic Horned Barrow in Britain and definitely worth visiting.

There was a semi circular portal at the west end, with eight large stones. The two largest stones at the centre form an arch which gave entry into the five chambers beyond.

Beyond these was a burnt area where bodies may have been cremated before the ash was collected into pottery urns for burial. Round the edge are the outer kerb stones.

The site is signed off an unclassified road between Glen Mona and Cornaa, at a bend opposite a small house. The grid reference is SC 463892. There is a limited amount of parking here. A narrow and overgrown pathway leads up between hedgerows, leads to a track by a ruined tholtan. Ignore the gate and horse trough on the left and continue along the track keeping the field boundary to your left to the top of the field. A gate and stile lead to the cairn.

If the gate to the right is open, go through that and head up the side of the field to a ruined tholtan at the top of the field and then follow the instructions.

Constructed by the Vikings in the 11th century, the impressive fortress- Peel Castle- dominating the Isle was once a royal residence, centre of government and military stronghold.

While no longer used, the red sandstone walls of the castle remain intact and provide an intriguing walk through history as you walk through the ruins of the Castle's Cathedral and Round Tower. A must to bookmark for the next chapter of your .

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Viking Island ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

Illustrated by Alice's Illustrations, this extraordinary map highlights some of the main attractions and landmarks on the Isle of Man with Norse connections from the 400 years the Norse ruled the Island- namely Tynwald Hill, battle sites, boat burials and the Norse / Manx crosses. The Manx crosses are the earliest recording of the Norse legends (in pictures, years before they were written down).

The boat is the Odins Raven longboat that sailed from Norway to the Isle of Man in the summer of 1979, with many adventures on the way via the Scottish Islands.
