Annan Academy News Annan Academy is a 6 year comprehensive Secondary school based in the south west of Scotland. It has a role of approximately 950 pupils.

Annan has nine cluster primary schools which are; Carrutherstown, Cummertrees, Eastriggs, Elmvale, Gretna; Hecklegirth; Newington, Springfield and St Columbus. Visitors to the Academy will notice that while most of the school buildings are modern, there is a part which dates back further. The old building incorporating the bell-tower dates back over a century to 1895. This is a constant reminder o

f the school's history and its origins. Recent refurbishment has created an enhanced learning environment for staff and pupils. A leading example of this is the new Performing Arts building situated towards the rear of the school. At Annan Academy we have a hardworking, dedicated and passionate staff who deliver the curriculum in an innovative and engaging manner. In order for this to be achieved pupils at Annan Academy are expected to give their best in all facets of their education. The school has a uniform policy which all pupils must adhere to; shirt, tie, black trousers/skirt/dress, black footwear. As a school we offer a vibrant extra-curricular programme to all pupils providing them with the necessary skills to be successful in their chosen career path. Highlights of this include a number of educationally relevant excursions, the opportunity to be involved in a variety of sporting teams and the production of junior and senior shows. Annan Academy is also working towards the LGBT Schools Charter. We committed to this programme in Autumn 2018. The programme has been developed to support schools to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that Annan Academy meeting legislative needs and is as inclusive as we can be. Sporting success 🏃‍♀️

Our junior netball teams made a 200 mile round trip to play their league matches against Stranraer Academy at the beginning of the week.

The girls played amazing and had a successful afternoon winning all four matches!!

The results are as follows:

Annan A vs Stranraer A - 51- 5 win
Annan A vs Stranraer B - 48-0 win
Annan B vs Stranraer A - 16-2 win
Annan B vs Stranraer B - 26-2 win

S1/2 rugby sessions 🏉

Today our S1/2 boys took part in a rugby session led by coaches from Annan Rugby Club.

These sessions are offered to pupils on a two weekly cycle- this week for boys, and next week for girls. The boys had a great time today in the sun learning new skills and working well together in teams!

If your child is interested in taking part in one of the sessions, please speak with Mr Brown in the PE Department. 🏉 🏃‍♀️

Dumfries and Galloway have taken the decision to close all schools for pupils and staff on Friday 24 January 2025 due to the incoming Storm Éowyn, and the associated Red and Amber weather warnings, where exceptionally high wind is forecast. There is also the likelihood of snowfall across parts of the region.

There were some new faces at running club tonight and we took a trip to the Back o' the hill for some epic hill reps. These guys did great and thoroughly enjoyed the workout. Well done everyone!
