Just spent a great weekend Tuffnell Glass a really talented group.of students and we used the time to explore cabachon, dot stacking, mandala, murrini making and application and some Double Helix to finish! Fuelled by the generous catering from Teresa and entertained by Martin all in all a lovely weekend :)

My next class is July at Tuffnell Glass we will be experimenting with Mandalas, decorative cabachons and turning them into rings and pendants. THURSDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER My workshop is open today 3pm to 5pm. I am then closed for the season but will be at The Handcraft Event at Appledore Social Club from 11pm to 3pm this Saturday 18th September and the next event after that is The Craft Fair at St Marys Church Hall 2nd October. There are more fairs between now and Christmas with some open hours in the workshop towards Christmas for shopping :) I will keep you posted. Coastal Inspired Glass

Jennie has been working with glass since 2009 and has had classes with a selection of international glass artists over the years. She has won Business Awards in Devon for three consecutive years as well as online awards for her glass.

Her work has been published in Magazines such as Craft and Design Magazine, The Flow and Bead Magazine as well as featuring in two book publications. She has written several tutorials which she sells via her Etsy shop to other Lampworkers and have featured in Soda Lime Times and Glass Line Magazine.

Her Beads are award winning, one of a kind pieces. Each one is made with love and most influenced by the coastal area she lives and walks in. She is a Professional Member of the International Society of Glass Bead makers and until recently was Regional Director for their International Region.

Jennie regularly teaches in her own studio workshop as well as visiting other studios to teach. Her work was chosen to feature in a permanent exhibition at the Corning Museum of Glass as part of the ISGB Presidents Collection a couple of years ago. ________________________________________________________________

I love what I do and am lucky enough to work full time with glass. I live and work in Appledore a small coastal village in Devon in the UK. I have two Terriers an Airedale and a Lakeland and Terriers are my other passion. If I am not on the torch you can find me out with the dogs enjoying the Devon Coast and Countryside

One of the reasons glass is my medium of choice is its ability to allow a depth of design which is not achievable in most other arts and it is this that keeps me fascinated and absorbed with melting glass. I had my first class in 2009 and have not looked back since and I now work with glass full time. I live on the coast in North Devon, UK on a tidal river estuary and close to the sea and, like a lot of artists, my work is heavily influenced by the ever-changing landscapes and tides, the colours and foliage that the seasons bring. My workshop is open to visitors during our summer season and I love to demonstrate the mercurial qualities of glass to those who pop in to say hello.

It is the three-dimensional quality of glass that really fascinates me, like looking into a rockpool on a sunny day, the ability to be able to layer the glass to magnify and to create depth is endless, this and the many different designs one can achieve by layering patterns together keeps me firing the torch up each day. My glass work is divided into two main areas, but both are governed by that three-dimensional principle. The first style of beads are made up of layers of different patterns, topped with lashings of clear glass to create a bead that allows the viewer to look deep into its core, and to see something different from every angle and at every level.

The second is 3-dimensional surface design, exploring colour to create light and shading on a flat bead surface, I love the endless challenge of layering glass to create new and interesting patterns on what is essential a very small canvas.

My wish for the future is to develop my teaching and share the knowledge I have gained with others as well as continue to push the boundaries of design within glass in its smallest form : the bead
