So, have you heard about the Bronze Age sauna they found in the north west highlands, Assynt last year?

It’s pretty fascinating! Archaeologists discovered this ancient steam bath, and it gives us a glimpse into how people lived back then. The sauna dates back around 3,000 years!

Ancient sauna culture in Scotland has roots in various traditional practices, though it may not be as prominent as in countries like Finland.
In Scotland, the concept of communal bathing dates back to the Celts. These early saunas, often called “sweat houses,” were typically constructed from wood and stones, creating a space for purification and ritual.

Early saunas were a safe haven for sustaining daily life, places of physical cleansing, but social hubs, spiritual sanctuaries, and even a place to give birth.

It’s such great reminder that the idea of relaxing in a sauna isn’t just a modern thing— It can still be a ritual of cleansing, healing, connection and immersion in nature which is something we maybe even need more of now than 3,000 years ago!

🔥 Social seats and private sessions available tomorrow & Saturday for an ancient and steamy weekend ritual..

I need your help 💜

In the last few months, my website traffic has dropped by 50% which has had a huge effect on my income.

Some folks may be unaware, but I’ve spent thousands of hours researching and creating some awesome Scotland travel guides on my website- and they’re free to all!

I’m constantly travelling the country to update these guides (at my own cost) and I really do put my heart and soul into sharing Scotland with you all.

I have one small favour to ask- I would LOVE it if you could share the blogs on my website with fellow travellers in this group, with your friends, in other groups- anywhere really!

This will help me to survive the recent Google update, feed my family, pay my staff, and run my small business.

You can find all my Scotland travel guides here:

I really appreciate it when people share my content- it’s the best way to support content creators, and it costs you nothing!

Thanks again- I’m amazed that so many of you show up to comment on my posts. I really DO have the best community on here- you’re all so kind and supportive- especially when the internet can be full of not so nice people.

Here's a wee photo of my and the wee guy who inspires me to work hard, help other people, and to never stop going on adventures!

Yvette 💜

We made superhost 🥳

Thanks to everyone for a great first season at Sleat View Pod. We have had wonderful guests from many different countries, short and long stays, and guests staying as a base for a variety of different activities and sightseeing along the Road to the Isles and further afield.

We have a few bookings in over the next couple of weeks but still have some availability in the October holidays. We will be staying open for most of the winter, the pod is super cozy with its underfloor heating and amenities so if you fancy a getaway in the Highlands while it's quieter why not book now and coorie in.

Today is the Autumn Equinox 22nd September🍂

There are only two moments in the year when the sun is exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length .
Equinox comes from the latin meaning 'equal night' - referring to the 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night that occurs today☀️🌕

Happy autumn everyone☀️🌕🍂

Reminiscing about the last week of sunshine we have had here on the west coast of Scotland 💙 So many days spent at the beach feeling like I was in the Caribbean with turquiose waters, white sands and the sun warming everything.

Today we're back to grey skies which I'm not that sad about as it gives me time to edit photos and reset for the coming week. Also, I can see all the colour changes of the forest canopy out my window which I'm excited about, who doesn't love Autumn colours 🍂

This photo is from our beach wanderings yesterday at Traigh, one of the places I have frequently swam with friends.
